Danny Rohl fighting for more than just points as Rangers future could hinge on Hearts result

Danny Rohl will be under no illusion the size of the task that awaits Rangers at Tynecastle on Monday evening.
Rangers’ 3-2 loss to Motherwell at Ibrox last weekend leaves them playing catch-up on both Hearts and Celtic.
Six points from six post-split for Celtic, even if not at their best, has them level on points with leaders Hearts at the summit and four ahead of Rangers.
The Gers and Hearts play their game in hand at a sold-out Tynecastle on Monday and something has to give.
Could Danny Rohl’s Rangers job be on the line already?
It is worth taking a step back at this point and remembering that Rangers had no right to even be in the title picture at this stage.
Russell Martin‘s disastrous tenure lasted just 123 days, yet that was about 100 days too many as the damage had been done.
| Rohl record | As Rangers boss |

Danny Rohl’s record as Rangers managerWhile Rohl deserves credit for at least making Rangers tough to beat for a long time, he will not be devoid of blame should the Light Blues fall short.
Especially not after the 49ers backed him handsomely in the summer window. Remember, many had Rangers as favourites for the title a little over a week ago.
And as respected journalist Gary Keown put it over the weekend, Rohl could be two games from the Rangers sack.
That might sound hyperbolic, but should the Gers lose to Hearts on Monday then that is that as far as the title goes.
Losing at Celtic six days later would push plenty of fans over the edge and would no doubt leave Andrew Cavenagh raising questions of his own.
However, Rohl deserves a full summer regardless of what happens over these next six days – and indeed these next few weeks.

What will change, however, is the level of support he gets from those higher up depending on these upcoming results.
This Rangers squad is good enough to win a title on paper, especially when put up against the current Celtic crop and Hearts’ group.
Rohl will need backing in the summer window, though, and he needs to fully prove he is the man to lead this latest chapter.
Rohl’s record in big games is simply not good enough
Jackson pointed out in his piece how Rohl regularly mentions how bad things were for Rangers prior to his appointment.
The German has a point, of course, but there is only so long you can say that – particularly when it is often unprompted.

Rohl will not need telling that he has won none of his three Old Firm games this season with O’Neill in the Celtic dugout.
He has won won and a defeat in two games with Hearts, meanwhile, and one win, a draw and a defeat against Motherwell.
The 49ers may wonder if Rohl is the man they want to throw more money behind with an underwhelming record like that.
So while points are the priority for those travelling Rangers fans in Edinburgh, there is plenty more on the line for the man in the visiting dugout.
