West Ham United may just need one more win to guarantee their Premier League survival.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in months after thumping lowly Wolves 4-0 on Friday.

Coupled with Tottenham losing against Sunderland, which extended their winless Premier League run to 14 games, the Hammers are now one place and two points above Roberto De Zerbi’s team with six matches remaining.

Nottingham Forest are a point ahead of West Ham in 16th, whereas Leeds put daylight between them and the bottom three with a shock 2-1 win at Manchester United on Monday.

As the East London outfit and their rivals jostle for position, West Ham may need just five more points to stay in the division for another season.

West Ham have finish line in sight

Before their win over Wolves, West Ham had spent 29 of 32 match weeks inside the relegation zone, which is more than 19th-placed Burnley.

In 2026, West Ham have gone from being a side that looked destined to drop into the Championship to the form team amongst their rivals.

West Ham’s 2026 results vs relegation rivals
    West Ham 18 points
    Leeds United 16 points
    Nottingham Forest 15 points
    Wolves 14 points
    Burnley Eight points
    Tottenham Five points

Back in November, BBC Sport outlined how teams finishing on 36 or more points in each of the last nine seasons were guaranteed safety from relegation.

Moreover, in the 20-team Premier League era (starting from 1995-96), the average number of points needed for survival by finishing 18th is 35.53.

However, this season is on track to be the toughest to survive in a decade, with West Ham holding the record for the team relegated with the most points in this era (42).

Now, according to BBC Sport’s Jonty Colman, 37 points is likely to guarantee survival this season, based on how points per game figures.

West Ham face Crystal Palace on Monday. They will hope that a win at Selhurst Park will send them on their way to survival, which looked so unlikely in January.

What does West Ham’s fixture list look like?

After a wretched start to 2026, Palace have enjoyed a resurgence in the league, in addition to reaching the Conference League quarter-finals.

They sit 13th in the table and have won three of their last five league games. West Ham, on the other hand, have two in that same stretch.

On 25 April, West Ham host Europe-chasing Everton, before travelling to seventh-placed Brentford to kickstart May.

West Ham’s final three matches are against table-toppers Arsenal, out-of-form Newcastle United and fellow strugglers Leeds.

Regardless, they will take this game by game as West Ham hope to beat Palace in their own backyard, with one win and two draws possibly enough.
