Four Thoughtful New Year’s Resolutions For Boston Sports Fans

It could be an eventful 2025 for Boston sports, and fans need to be prepared.

Before the clock strikes midnight on the East Coast to ring in a new year, it’s important to set a list of resolutions. You can keep the personal ones to yourself. For us, here are four things for fans to ponder and keep in mind throughout 2025.

    Be Patient
This specifically goes out to the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots. Starting with New England, it needs to figure out what it wants to do with the coaching staff. But when the offseason rolls around, can we relax a bit? Can we make it past at least one major signing before a snarky comment about the Patriots missing out on a player? For the B’s, they look improved under interim head coach Joe Sacco. The Black and Gold are third in the Atlantic Divison heading into their New Year’s Eve clash and deserve your time for them to build themselves up as Stanley Cup contenders. Finally, for the Red Sox, they’ve built a solid foundation. A right-handed bat is still needed, but chief baseball officer Craig Breslow addressed the team’s key needs with the rotation. So when it comes to top prospects like Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell, fans need to wait. Will they debut in 2025? It’s possible, but let’s not rush them so soon.

    Show Up Live
Whether it’s TD Garden, Fenway Park or Tsongas Center, try your best to catch one of the teams live. The Fleet deserves a shout as they continue their run toward another appearance in the Walker Cup Finals. The commute from Boston to Lowell, Mass., can be tough on some fans, but it’s a fun experience to catch a PWHL game live. The same can be said for the Bruins, Celtics and Red Sox. We just ask that you remain respectful. Everyone’s there to have fun, have a good time and forget about their daily life for a few hours. Don’t be the jerk who sours the mood. You’re not being funny.

    Stop Blaming The Refs
We’re pointing the finger at the Celtics. Boston is too good of a team to always look at an NBA official’s direction after scoring a layup or dunk. Are the referees perfect? Of course not. But that’s just human nature. There’s no conspiracy against the C’s. The need to always complain about the officials also kind of kills the fun of the Celtics. We know it’s not in his nature, but Jayson Tatum’s biggest NBA rival can’t be Tony Brothers. And before any Green Teamers chime back with, “He has no equal.” He has just as many championships as Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Relax.

    Be More Informed
Elon Musk bros, you can stop reading, assuming you actually were. We can all agree X got worse in 2024, right? Yes, there’s still the appeal of live news and memes. But the blue checkmark accounts feel like they’ve become more annoying. That’s probably because a lot of their posts are made in bad faith and only exist to generate engagement, which unfortunately has been successful. We just ask Boston sports fans to think with a critical eye and not engage in rage bait. We have faith that you know that people who call Jerod Mayo a “DEI hire” have no idea what they’re talking about. You’re reading NESN.com, so that’s a good sign that you’re not interested in hearing bad-faith arguments. Let’s engage less with these clickbait accounts and speak like we want to have a conversation instead of making a thinly veiled argument to spread a toxic agenda.
