Wayne Rooney’s career was built on his early rise at Everton and his prolonged excellence at Man United.

After breaking onto the scene aged 16 for Everton, Rooney joined Man United in 2004, making 540 appearances in the process.

He became the top scorer in their history with 240 goals, and he has gone down as one of the greatest players to play in the Premier League.

Rooney‘s efforts came against 25 different English teams, and ahead of Everton’s clash with Man United on Monday, the Premier League X account wrongly claimed that the England legend scored frequently against the Toffees.

It could be argued that he showed some leniency when he came up against the Toffees, scoring only five goals in 20 appearances.

Of all the teams he played 14 or more times against, his goal record against Everton was the joint-worst.

That is a huge contrast to some of his goalscoring exploits against other sides, and he scored 10-plus goals against nine different English teams over the course of his career.

In a blue shirt, his record was phenomenal given the fact that he was in L4 at opposite ends of his career, and his return to Goodison Park for the 2017-18 season helped him reach over 100 appearances for the Toffees.

However, Everton are confident at the moment, and they do have their travelling supporters to drag them through the match.

Recently, Rooney praised Everton’s away fans as some of the best in world football, and his affinity for the Toffees still grows strong.

Having grown up as a Toffees supporter, Rooney’s love for the team will never die and few supporters have had a greater amount of patience for their clubs than Everton fans.

As the Toffees finally look to be making progress after years of stagnation, Rooney will secretly be hoping that Everton can record a famous win at Old Trafford to boost their European credentials.
