Liverpool have now convinced Crystal Palace into Marc Guehi deal as £35m January news drops

Liverpool appear to have Marc Guehi firmly within their grasp ahead of the January transfer window.

The Crystal Palace star has been one of the Premier League’s hottest properties in recent months, and it has become apparent that the South London outfit will be unable to keep hold of him in the long term.

Pete O’Rourke recently revealed on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that Liverpool are determined to win the race for Guehi this winter, despite the interest that has mounted from elsewhere in Europe of late.

Liverpool came within a whisker of signing Guehi in the summer, but they have now made a major breakthrough that looks set to see them get their man in January.

Crystal Palace view Liverpool as the only option for Guehi sale

Liverpool’s chase of Guehi has been long and drawn out, but they will now finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

Palace are now understood to be convinced that the Reds are the “only club truly positioned” to sign the centre-back in January, according to Sacha Tavolieri via Sky Sports Switzerland.

Guehi has attracted interest from Bayern Munich of late, and given that his contract is due to expire at the end of the season, he will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs as early as January.

With Palace wanting a sale for £35million, it is now believed that the Merseysiders are firmly ahead of Bayern in the race for his signature.

The Eagles appear resigned to losing their club captain, and as a result, it is seemingly viewed as a clear benefit if they are able to cash in on him in January, rather than accept his departure on a free.

Ibrahima Konate chase to be given up if Guehi transfer goes through

Football Insider revealed back in October that Liverpool are extremely reluctant to lose Ibrahima Konate when his contract expires at the end of the season.

However, with talks between the Reds and the Frenchman seemingly no closer to reaching a positive conclusion, they may finally be tempted to call it quits if they can land Guehi in January.

Konate’s performances have come under scrutiny of late, and while he has been a key part of Arne Slot’s team, FSG won’t want to damage the club’s wage structure in order to keep him, especially when a top-quality alternative is available in Guehi.

Liverpool have tried time and again to convince the former RB Leipzig man to prolong his stay at Anfield, but the progression in their pursuit of Guehi may serve as the final straw for them to allow Konate to walk away for free.
