Don’t be silly’… Everton fans shock can’t believe what they’re hearing about Jack Grealish

‘Don’t be silly’… Everton fans can’t believe what they’re hearing about Jack Grealish

Man City and Everton have agreed a deal for Jack Grealish to join the Toffees on a loan deal this summer.

Ever since interest was registered in the winger in June, David Moyes has been hot on The Friedkin Group’s heels to make this move happen.

Finally, it has, and now Grealish will cement a £15m loan transfer, which is certainly on the expensive side due to the 29-year-old’s high wage.

Nevertheless, it’s the lengths Everton must go to if they want ambitious signings.

It will be hard to beat the signing of a player who was once valued at £100m, and though the overall consensus is positive, Evertonians have picked out a glaring mistake.

Everton fans are baffled that Jack Grealish could sign for £50m

It’s been a saga that has gone on for too long, and Moyes will be glad it’s finally been put to bed.

At one point, Moyes said Grealish was the Premier League’s ‘best’ and it’s hard to argue with that when he has a £100 million fee to his name.

But the concerning factor in this deal is that Grealish has a £50 million buy option in his contract, and discussing on X, the Toffees fan base can’t quite believe it.

After finding out the permanent price, Everton fans wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up paying it, as one said: “Paying £50m for a 30-year-old Grealish feels very Everton in fairness,” another agreed, saying: “2 goals 1 assist 6 appearances (bad injury 2 months in) 50M obligation to buy, up the toffees.”

What hasn’t come to the surface is that the 29-year-old has one year left on his current City deal, as one supporter pointed out: “Ha, no chance with 1 yr left on his contract, Everton not paying that,” with another suggesting the fee would be overpaying: “too much that.”

Some workings out have even been done with the deal considered: “50m when he will have 1 year of contract left and will cost City 300k a week again. Plus will be 30. Don’t be silly. Probs half that, and Grealish would have to give up a year of 300k a week. 25m at 175k a week, then yeah 4-year deal then he will retire no doubt after the 4 yrs.”

Adding onto this explanation, Grealish’s age is certainly stopping this from happening: “For a player who by then will be nearly 31, that’s a lot of money.”

It’s quite clear with his age, contract, and no certainty that Grealish will be a success, that £50 million seems very steep for what Everton should pay, and now he’s got to prove the fans wrong.

Jack Grealish must emulate treble-winning season at Everton

The 37-time England international didn’t get anywhere near his best Premier League season for numbers at City, as 17 goal involvements for Aston Villa remains his career high.

It’s clear that the only way £50 million is justifiable for Grealish is if he beats his own record.

With this considered, it would then become Everton’s record transfer, finally eclipsing the leading £45 million deal.

Should Grealish want any chance of a permanent switch, the 29-year-old must emulate his only successful season in Manchester, when he won the treble with City, then The Friedkins will have something to think about.
