Wolves take significant step towards sealing transfer of Rangers player

Wolves carry out extensive checks on Leon King

According to Graeme Bailey, the relegated English club have ramped up their interest, carrying out significant checks on Leon King.

Ayr United have also offered King a contract, given the fact that his deal at Ibrox is set to run out at the end of June.

However, the 22-year-old is keeping his options open, especially as a move to England appears to be on the cards.

King would likely prefer playing for an English club that will fight for promotion to the Premier League over a Scottish side not expected to play Scottish Premiership football in the coming years.

Along with Wolves, Burnley have also carried out checks of their own, as they are open to signing the centre-back on a free transfer.

Coventry City, who will be playing in the Premier League, are also said to be in the mix, along with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and West Brom.

Will Rangers sack Danny Rohl if they fail to win the league?

If he goes, who would be a good replacement for him?

What has King said about his future as his Rangers contract runs out?

King has admitted that he wants to play regularly next season as his contract at Rangers is set to run out.

In many ways, he has thrown the ball in the Ibrox outfit’s court, and if they’re unable to guarantee him minutes, he will be on his way out.

He clearly is not short on options in England, but has admitted that a return to Ayr United cannot be ruled out either.

Right now, he seems to be assessing his options and is not expected to be in any hurry to make a decision.

He said: “This is what I needed: to go out and play consistently this season.

“The constant challenge of having to earn a spot in the team each week has been massive for me.”

“I’m without a contract now, so we’ll see what my future holds.

“But I’m definitely not shutting the door on staying here. I’ve loved it.”
