Aston Villa open transfer talks as another Rangers exit now on the cards

Rangers could be facing an exodus in the summer transfer window, with a number of their players in demand.

In the past, the Ibrox outfit have seen their players’ heads being turned by moves to Premier League clubs.

This summer could be similar in that regard, with Aston Villa keen on Bailey Rice.

Will Rangers sack Danny Rohl if they fail to win the league?

If he goes, who would be a good replacement for him?

Aston Villa, Crystal Palace among clubs to open talks with Bailey Rice

According to Graeme Bailey, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Villa are all interested in the 19-year-old.

They have all opened talks and presented a clear path to first-team football, as that is something Rice is looking for at his next club.

Rice can leave Rangers on a free as his contract is running out in June, so he is open to having talks with any club outside Scotland.

The Light Blues are also in talks with him, but thus far, no decision has been made by the young midfielder.

How Rangers may look to convince Rice to stay

Rangers know that it is not going to be easy to convince Rice to stay.

The 19-year-old has already shown that, despite extension talks, he does have offers from other clubs.

Along with the Premier League interest, Schalke have been dangling personal terms, while Ajax are also sniffing around.

To stand any chance of keeping him, the Gers hierarchy need to set up a meeting with him and Danny Rohl in order to discuss future plans.

He would want to be promised proper game time next season and potentially a proper wage bump tied to appearances and bonuses that actually reward him for staying fit and contributing.

Barry Ferguson is a big fan of Rice, so having him intervene and try to convince the midfielder could go a long way.

Tying him down to a new deal makes a lot of sense as he’s a left-footed Scotsman who could nail down a first-team spot at Ibrox and break into the national team without having to prove himself all over again in a foreign league.

The dream of captaining the side one day still means something if they make it feel real.
