Claudio Braga names Emmanuel Fernandez as his toughest opponent

Despite scoring against the Gers, Braga has named Emmanuel Fernandez as the toughest opponent he has faced this season.

The Nigeria international moved to Ibrox in the summer as a relative unknown from Peterborough United, but has become among the team’s most important players.

Fernandez was even named as Rangers’ player of the year, when it appeared that the fans fancied Mikey Moore to win the award.

This shows just how effective the centre-back has been as he managed to overcome a few struggles early in the season.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

Now, he has adapted well to life in Scotland and has become one of the Premiership’s best defenders.

This has been acknowledged by rival players as well, with Braga revealing on TikTok that Fernandez has not been easy to play against.

What does the future hold for Fernandez at Rangers?

After a stellar first season at Ibrox, it comes as no surprise that the centre-back has been linked with a move away from the club.

At 24, he has already shown the maturity of a defender in his prime and his valuation has skyrocketed in recent months.

Arsenal are hot on the heels of Fernandez, but are still to make an approach for the defender.

Similarly, West Ham are admirers and could make a move for him in the coming months, depending on their Premier League status.

Fernandez admitted that he’s loving life at Rangers, but the season is yet ongoing and no clubs have reached out to his representatives yet.

If that happens, it could be a different story altogether, and that could turn the player’s head.

The Light Blues will demand big money if he asks to leave, but as things stand, he is likelier to stay than leave this summer.
