Real Salt Lake 0-2 Inter Miami: Suarez and De Paul score stunners in late victory

Inter Miami extended their unbeaten run in MLS to eight games after Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suarez secured victory over Real Salt Lake.

Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suarez both scored stunning goals to clinch a late 2-0 win for Inter Miami against Real Salt Lake.

It seemed destined to end goalless at America First Field on Wednesday, but De Paul and Suarez netted within quick succession as Guillermo Hoyos continued his perfect start as head coach.

RSL started on the front foot and should have been ahead inside four minutes, but Sergi Solans flashed a header across the face of goal from close range before Morgan Guilavogui saw a goal disallowed for offside.

Lionel Messi then started to get involved, forcing a smart stop from Rafael Cabral, while his corner on the stroke of half-time was glanced over by German Berterame.

Berterame missed an even better chance five minutes into the second half, missing the target again after brilliant work from Messi, while Zavier Gozo smashed a volley over the bar at the other end.

The Herons would eventually break the deadlock in the 82nd minute, when De Paul picked out the top-right corner from distance, and Suarez would do the same, this time with a volley from inside the box, a minute later.

Data Debrief: Miami’s stars make the impact

Miami edged the expected goals (xG) battle 1.67 to 1.07, while their two goals were worth 0.02 (De Paul) and 0.05 (Suarez) as they required moments of magic from their big names to get over the line.

Messi was as impactful as ever, recording the most shots (10), creating the joint-most chances (three), completing the most dribbles (three), competing in the most duels (13) and completing the most passes in the final third 29.

The Argentinian leads MLS this season for shots (50) and has played the second-most successful passes ending in the final third (159), behind team-mate De Paul (161).
