3 years after leaving Rangers for £0, Ibrox reject is better than Chermiti

Glasgow Rangers centre-forward Youssef Chermiti finally ended his long wait for a goal against a team outside of the top three in the Scottish Premiership last weekend.
The Portugal U21 international scored two goals in the 6-3 win away at Falkirk in the club’s last match, which was the first time that he scored against a team other than Celtic or Hearts in 2026.
He had only scored one goal against the other teams in the league all season prior to those goals against Falkirk, and has now taken his tally to 11 for the campaign.

Since signing from Everton for £8m last summer, Chermiti has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances in the Premiership for the Light Blues.
However, the Portuguese centre-forward also failed to score a single goal or provide any assists in his eight appearances in the league phase of the Europa League.
What Youssef Chermiti still needs to improve on at Rangers
Chermiti deserves credit for his recent form, with his hat-trick against Hearts and braces against Celtic and Falkirk, but he still has a long way to go to live up to his price tag at Ibrox for Danny Rohl.
The former Everton marksman still needs to add more consistency to his goalscoring because he has only scored in six of his 36 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues.
A failure to score in 30 of his 36 appearances for the club is not a particularly impressive statistic for a player who was signed for the most money they have paid for a star since 2000.

His form in the Europa League, in particular, was disappointing and Chermiti needs to find a way to add more consistency to his finishing and all-round play in the box ahead of next season.
If he can do that, the £8m centre-forward could be the consistent number nine that the Gers have been looking for since Alfredo Morelos departed.
Rangers already released a bigger talent than Youssef Chermiti
Whilst Chermiti is still battling to prove himself to be a success at Ibrox, there is a former Rangers striker who currently looks like an even bigger talent.

Robbie Ure came up through the youth ranks at Ibrox and looked destined to become the next Kris Boyd, who scored 135 goals in 234 games as a Scottish centre-forward for the Gers.
The Scottish-born youngster scored 22 goals in 48 matches for the club at youth level before scoring his first senior goal on his debut against Queen of the South in the League Cup in August 2022.
Unfortunately, though, Ure opted to move on at the end of his contract in the summer of 2023, forcing Rangers to release him, and he joined Anderlecht before signing for Swedish side Sirius in March 2025.
Since making the move to Sweden, the 22-year-old marksman has shown that he can score goals on a regular basis as a clinical finisher at senior level in the Allsvenskan.

The young attacker, who is eligible to play for Scotland or Ukraine at international level, has scored 13 goals and created five for his teammates in 33 league appearances since the start of last season for Sirius.
On top of that, Ure scored five goals in five appearances in the Swedish Cup earlier this year, only for his team to lose in the semi-finals on penalties to Hammarby.
The 22-year-old star has now scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances for Sirius in all competitions, which works out at a goal contribution every 1.58 games on average.
Chermiti, meanwhile, has averaged a goal contribution every 2.58 games for Rangers with 11 goals and three assists in his 36 outings for the club so far, which shows that Ure has been considerably more impactful for his side.
These statistics suggest that Rangers released an even bigger talent than Chermiti in 2023, because he has produced goals and assists more consistently at senior level in his career, at a decent level in Sweden, since leaving Ibrox.
Ure could have gone on to be Boyd 2.0 at Ibrox with his exceptional goal return for Sirius because he could have been the club’s main man up front as a Scottish striker, which is not something that the Gers have had for some time, with the likes of Morelos, Cyriel Dessers, and now Chermiti leading the line.
