92% of the fans have voted for Rangers icon Walter Smith

Over a thousand fans interacted with the TalkingPoints poll and have voted for Smith as the best in Old Firm history.

The former Gers manager got over 1100 votes out of 1250, with O’Neill coming in second place with 3 per cent of the vote share.

To Slane’s surprise, Postecoglou got only 23 votes and was the second last among the five and got less than 2 per cent of the vote.

Advocaat came in third place with 2.2 per cent of the vote, while Rodgers was in last as only 0.7 per cent of the voters believed that he was the best manager to take charge of either Rangers or Celtic.

How Smith is remembered at Ibrox

Smith passed away in October 2021, but his memory will live on forever at Ibrox.

He is one of the most influential figures in Rangers history and has a deep personal connection to the club, being a lifelong fan.

His trophy-laden career with the Light Blues, including the Nine-in-a-Row triumph is something that is not expected to be achieved again.

There is a bronze statue of Smith, which is located on the corner between Edmiston House and the Copland Road stand.

This is the same area where he used to stand as a boy to watch his heroes on the old east terracing.

Smith is not just remembered for his 21 trophies, but for the character and integrity he showed, which earned him the nickname “The Gaffer”.

Profits from commemorative items, like the programme sold during his statue unveiling, are often donated to the Rangers Charity Foundation, continuing his tradition of supporting the local community.

There had to be only one clear winner when the poll was set up.
