Dodgers to Celebrate World Series Triumph with White House Visit Amidst Nationals Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially accepted an invitation to visit the White House on April 7, 2025, to commemorate their 2024 World Series championship. This visit coincides with their three-game series against the Washington Nationals in the nation’s capital.
In a statement released on March 25, the Dodgers expressed their enthusiasm:
“In keeping with long-standing baseball tradition, President Trump has invited the 2024 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House when they play in Washington D.C. on April 7. The Dodgers look forward to visiting the White House and celebrating our title.”
Manager Dave Roberts highlighted the significance of the occasion, stating, “It’s certainly a huge honor to get the invitation to the White House. It allows us to celebrate our 2024 championship.”
This upcoming visit marks the Dodgers’ second trip to the White House in recent years. They previously celebrated their 2020 World Series victory with President Biden in July 2021.
However, the decision to visit the White House has elicited varied responses from team members. Shortstop Mookie Betts remains undecided about attending, noting he needs to discuss it with his family. Betts had previously declined a White House visit in 2019 after winning the World Series with the Boston Red Sox during President Trump’s first term.
The visit also comes in the wake of a recent controversy involving the Department of Defense. An article highlighting Jackie Robinson’s military service was temporarily removed from its website as part of a “digital content refresh.” Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Manager Roberts commented on the situation, stating he was “happy that the page went back up” but refrained from further commentary.
In addition to the White House visit, members of the Dodgers will also visit Capitol Hill on April 8, further emphasizing their engagement during their time in Washington, D.C.
As the Dodgers prepare for their series against the Nationals, this White House visit serves as a momentous occasion to honor their achievements and partake in a longstanding tradition of championship teams being recognized by the President. The Dodgers met with President Biden and Vice President Harris during their trip to the nation’s capitol back in 2021, and now they will meet with President Trump, in Game 4 of the 2018 World Series. While the Dodgers were in Tokyo, the team’s trio of Japanese stars hosted a special dinner for the team which included a giant tuna fish that measured between 400-500 pounds.
