Could Dodgers Enter Potential $427 Million Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Sweepstakes?

Coming into the offseason, the Toronto Blue Jays looked to be in a position to aggressively add talent in an attempt to make a postseason run in 2025. But they’ve fallen short on superstar free agents like Max Fried, Corbin Burnes, and Juan Soto. In fact, they haven’t really added any talent at all.

It has everybody wondering what the Blue Jays will do in 2025. Both Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are entering their walk years and Toronto runs the risk of losing both players to free agency, effectively setting the franchise back 10 years.

Or the Blue Jays could trade both these stars and land a massive haul of prospect capital. Guerrero alone would land at least two top-100 prospects, if not more.

The obvious trade partners in a scenario like this would be the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, and even the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox may not seem likely because they’re in the American League East with the Blue Jays, but Toronto could bank on Boston not re-signing him for 2026 and beyond.

Could the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers enter the sweepstakes?

The short answer is yes, but there would be a lot of hoops to jump through for Los Angeles to acquire the superstar first baseman.

The first hoop to figure out would be position. Freddie Freeman mans first base and Shohei Ohtani is the Dodgers’ everyday designated hitter. That means Guerrero would come to the Dodgers as a third baseman.

Guerrero began his career as a third baseman before moving over to first base. He played 100 innings at third base in 2024 and held his own.

The second hoop would be a bit more complicated. Would the Blue Jays be willing to trade Guerrero to the best team in the league?

My answer would be yes. If Toronto is trading Guerrero, it means it’s not anticipating winning anything meaningful for a few years. If the Blue Jays land a huge prospect haul for Los Angeles, they wouldn’t mind if it meant the Dodgers won the 2025 World Series. The rest of the league would just need to make sure the Dodgers don’t re-sign him or else the league could legitimately be run through the Dodgers.

The final hoop to figure out would be whether or not the Dodgers have the prospect capital to acquire the talented infielder. I believe the Dodgers have more young talent than many realize. Pitchers like River Ryan, Bobby Miller, Nick Frasso, and Justin Wrobleski are supremely talented, but may not have a spot in the Dodgers’ rotation because of all the elite arms.

Would they be my favorites to land him? No. But would they have a chance? Absolutely.
