Arkansas football vs Tennessee score today: Hogs seeking upset, lead Vols at halftime

The Razorbacks (3-2, 1-1 SEC) lead No. 4 Tennessee 3-0 at halftime. Arkansas out-gained the Volunteers (4-0, 1-0) 222-76 through the first two quarters and sacked redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava three times. The Hogs’ last win over a top-five team in Fayetteville came against the Volunteers in 1999.

Arkansas had missed plenty of opportunities to create a bigger lead Saturday night. Isaiah Sategna dropped a touchdown, Kyle Ramsey missed a field goal and the Razorbacks were stuffed on two fourth-down conversion attempts inside Tennessee territory.

Still, this has been a mightily impressive performance from Arkansas. The Volunteers entered Saturday night averaging 54 points per game, which led the entire country.

Below are live score updates, highlights and key plays from Arkansas football’s home game tonight against No. 4 Tennessee. This story will be updated with new information and photos throughout the evening.

Arkansas football vs Tennessee score updates

    Tennessee 0 0 14 0 14
    Arkansas 3 0 7 9 19

    Fourth Quarter

Arkansas touchdown: Malachi Singleton 11-yard run

    • It’s borderline unbelievable. With their backup quarterback, the Hogs march 59 yards on four plays and grab the lead with 1:17 remaining. Exquisite play-calling by Bobby Petrino on the drive. The two-point try was no good, though, so Arkansas leads 19-14.

    Arkansas field goal

    • This was a weird drive. Arkansas got down to the Tennessee two-yard line, but Taylen Green took a big hit on a long pass and had to exit the game. He wanted to come back in, but the Hogs kept backup Malachi Singleton on the field, and they didn’t find the end zone. Matthew Shipley is good from 22 yards out, and the Tennessee lead is 14-13 with 12:08 remaining.

    Third Quarter

Touchdown Arkansas: Ja’Quinden Jackson 2-yard run

    • The Hogs respond with a vital scoring drive to trim the deficit to 14-10 with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter. Really nice passing drive from Taylen Green, and Jackson finished it off with his 10th touchdown of the season.

Touchdown Tennessee: Dylan Sampson 4-yard run

    • Two personal foul penalties on the Arkansas defense made life easy for Tennessee on that drive, and the Volunteers punch it in on another short run from Sampson. Tennessee’s offense has figured out the Hogs’ defense after halftime, and it’s 14-3 with 8:19 remaining in the third quarter.

Touchdown Tennessee: Dylan Sampson 4-yard run

    • Tennessee scores on its first drive of the second half, and Sampson was instrumental with three carries for 60 yards in the series. Arkansas played so well in the first half, but it’s all been wiped away as Tennessee is now out in front.

    Second Quarter

    Arkansas missed field goal

    • Kyle Ramsey is no good from 44 yards out, and the Arkansas lead remains 3-0. The Hogs have out-gained Tennessee 223-29. Isaac TeSlaa was wide open for an easy touchdown on third down, but Taylen Green never looked his way.

Arkansas stopped on fourth down, again

    • On fourth-and-1 from the Tennessee 20, Sam Pittman elects to go for it and the Hogs come up short. Taylen Green took off with all of his receivers covered, but he came up short of the line-to-gain. The sequence is especially brutal, as Isaiah Sategna dropped a touchdown three plays earlier. Arkansas has out-gained Tennessee 192-34, but it’s only 3-0 on the scoreboard.

    Arkansas defense forces another punt

    • Tennessee was able to get inside Arkansas territory, but the Hogs’ defense was again got off the field and forced a Volunteers punt. Tennessee’s offense came in averaging 54 points per game, but its scoreless early in the second quarter. Arkansas takes over at its own six-yard line.

    First Quarter

    Arkansas stopped on fourth down

    • The Hogs faced fourth-and-one inside Tennessee territory, and while Taylen Green found Var’keyes Gumms, the tight end made the catch with his knee down and the ball short of the first-down line. The quarter ends with Arkansas leading 3-0. Tennessee’s offense only had the ball for 2:20 in the opening period.

    Arkansas field goal

    • Impressive opening drive for the Hogs, taking up nearly 10 minutes on 16 plays, but they have to settle for a field goal after a false start penalty when they had second-and-goal from the Tennessee 1-yard line. It’s 3-0 Arkansas, and this is the first time Tennessee has trailed all season.

    • Tennessee’s last win: 2007 (34-13)

    Arkansas vs Tennessee prediction

Tennessee 34, Arkansas 20: It’s difficult to envision Arkansas being able to keep up with the Volunteers’ offense. If Arkansas can run the football successfully and give Taylen Green enough time, there will be an outside chance at the upset. Unfortunately, the Hogs haven’t proven they can do both against high-quality opposition.
