Spotted: Ipswich Town ace latest to join Leeds United “falling apart” wind-up live on Sky News
Ipswich Town have enjoyed an open-top bus parade today to celebrate their promotion to the Premier League, and there should be no surprise to see Leeds United are getting stick again.
Leeds are facing the playoffs this week with Daniel Farke’s former club Norwich City up in the semi-final on Sunday at Carrow Road.
The Canaries won’t have wanted to face Leeds in the playoffs, mainly because they will no doubt have been hoping that Farke could pip their bitter rivals Ipswich to the top two.
Leeds yet again the butt of jokes after missing out on promotion
It’s become a trend in the Championship to mock Leeds at any given opportunity, no matter the rivalry or the given team’s own circumstance.
Leicester City’s fans and players gave it both barrels when they were confirmed as champions, while other clubs with seemingly no correlation to the situation have piled on too – including Huddersfield Town, celebrating Ipswich’s promotion and Leeds’ demise on Saturday, even though the result relegated them to League One.
Southampton jumped on the bandwagon too, a side we finished above despite winning just two of our last eight league games:
Ipswich’s Kayden Jackson joins in “Leeds are falling apart” chants
Ipswich are the side that pipped Leeds to the Premier League this month, so it was only a matter of time before one of their players mocked the club in public.
An open-top bus parade commenced today for the side that finished second, in which Sky News reporter Paul Gimour was talking live to Luke Woolfenden and Kayden Jackson – the latter assisting twice in Leeds’ 4-3 win at Portman Road back in August.
As Woolfenden tries to speak, Jackson interrupts with a chorus of “Leeds are falling apart again”:
Can’t blame Ipswich for the wind-ups
There’s no rivalry here other than the competitive one in the promotion race, but Ipswich have been doubted by everyone all season.
They were bound to give it back, and it’s fair game.
Virtually everyone thought they’d drop off at some point this season, but they held their nerve at the finish line, which is what has proven the difference here.
It’s easy to make jokes now, but Jackson and co need to back that up in the Premier League otherwise it’ll come back to bite, as these things so often do.
