Kris Boyd slams if Celtic would allow Hearts to win title over Rangers as Chris Sutton responds

Kris Boyd asks if Celtic would let Hearts win title over Rangers as Chris Sutton responds

With Celtic, Hearts and Rangers all preparing to navigate a mouthwatering post-split schedule, a genuinely fascinating scenario could emerge on the final day of the Scottish Premiership season.

The SPFL have confirmed that Celtic will host Hearts at Parkhead on May 16, in a game many across the footballing world have already pencilled in, including a certain Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton.

Naturally, Celtic’s absolute priority is to retain their Premiership crown and finish the job themselves, but given how turbulent their campaign has been, there is a very real possibility that they mess up and fall out of contention by that final weekend.

Boyd posed the ultimate hypothetical question to his punditry sparring partner, Sutton, regarding that exact situation.

Boyd asked: “If Celtic are out of it on the final day, do they lie down to Hearts?”

Sutton couldn’t resist a cheeky dig in response: “Well, it wouldn’t be the first time we have seen a team lie down on the final day, would it?!”

What happens if only Hearts and Rangers can win the title on the final day?

While Sutton clarified that throwing a match isn’t in the nature of most professionals, he admitted the Celtic Park faithful would rather see Hearts lift the trophy if their own team fails to do so.

    MORE CELTIC STORIES

Both Sutton and Boyd will be covering the crunch fixture live for Sky Sports, meaning they will be front and centre to witness the drama unfold in real time.

If the title race goes down to the wire, and all three teams are involved, that broadcast will be absolute box office.

Nonetheless, this is what Boyd and Sutton had to say on the Warm-Up on the prospect of Celtic having to help out Rangers on the final day.

Boyd: “If Celtic are out of it on the final day, do they lie down to Hearts?”

Sutton: “Well, it wouldn’t be the first time we have seen a team lie down on the final day, would it?!”

Boyd: “Nice to see you have got over that one, friend.”

Sutton: “Just telling the truth. That’s not in the nature. We know it’s not in the nature of most players. There are players who have done it before.

“Let’s just wait and see. I think most Celtic fans would prefer Hearts to win it over Rangers. It would be good for the league if Hearts win it. I think most balanced football fans feel that way.”
