Keith Jackson makes Andrew Cavenagh claim after what he has seen at Rangers

Andrew Cavenagh and his consortium, along with the 49ers Enterprises, completed the Rangers takeover nearly a year ago.

Since then, they have made a number of changes behind the scenes to give a good structure to the entire setup.

Danny Rohl has reaped the benefits of it and has taken the Gers from sixth place in the Scottish Premiership and 13 points behind the league leaders to second place and within touching distance of top spot.

If YOU were to change one thing about his management style for next season, what would it be? 🤔

Keith Jackson: There is a case to be made for Rangers’ title credentials

Jackson believes that even though Cavenagh and the rest of the owners have only just been in charge for a season, it is hard to argue against the impact they have had.

Seeing how Rohl has transformed the team also makes the Daily Record journalist believe that Rangers can actually win the title.

Even though he thinks that they are still improving and there are plenty of things that are not right, he expects them to challenge right until the end for the title.

He wrote: “Rangers have not suddenly become perfect. Far from it. They remain a very long way from that.

“And yet, even though Andrew Cavenagh and his friends from the 49ers, are only starting out on this journey and despite the fact that Danny Rohl’s side remains a work in progress, there is now a genuine case to be made for their title credentials.

“It’s a borderline absurdity that a group of players which might have been struggling to make the top six had it continued under Russell Martin’s management might now go on to become champions but then again, if such a thing was ever likely to happen then it might as well be in the right here and now of it.

“So when Rohl’s side jumped into pole position on Saturday night, albeit with a largely unconvincing win at home to Dundee United, it did feel like a significant moment.”

What Danny Rohl has done to change the mood at Ibrox

Rohl inherited a leaky defence and one of the first things he did was to shore up the backline.

He managed to get the best out of Emmanuel Fernandez and worked with Nasser Djiga in training to make him a regular starter.

Prior to that, there was a lot of chopping and changing in the defence, which the German made a point of changing.

Rohl also raised the standards at the club and showed the dressing room that it was a meritocracy and no player is immune from being dropped.

Him benching James Tavernier is a clear indicator that players can no longer rest on their past laurels.

The Gers boss also has a good understanding with the owners and they appear to be well-aligned with their short and long-term goals.
