Youssef Chermiti can fire Rangers to Scottish Premiership title after latest announcement

Youssouf Chermiti in action for Rangers

Youssouf Chermiti has been awarded the Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award following his performances for Rangers in February.

The Portuguese striker has been hit or miss for the Bears this campaign so far, with just four league goals scored by the end of January.

However, over the last few weeks, he has popped up in a massive way for Danny Rohl’s side. The 21-year-old has scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Hearts and a brace against Celtic, throughout last month.

Now, that award has arrived at a time when the G51 outfit need their stars to be at their best, as they head into a crucial last few months of the season.

Chermiti will be hoping to start for Rangers against St Mirren, and he must look to use that game as the start of a goalscoring run.

Why Player of the Month award has come at the best time for Youssouf Chermiti

Being given the Player of the Month award will certainly give Chermiti a confidence boost at Ibrox, and it arrives as Rangers have little room to falter in the title race.

Rising to the big occasions seems to be the former Everton striker’s best attribute, as out of his nine total goals in the Scottish League, eight have come against Celtic or Hearts.

As the coming weeks progress, the stakes are only going to get higher, and his February award serves as a reminder he can be Rangers’ talisman in those times.

The league split is around the corner, offering more of those intense top-of-the-table clashes that Chermiti simply loves to compete in.

However, the Portuguese forward must show his qualities to keep the Bears competitive in the race for the title, with Peter Lovenkrands beginning to doubt Chermiti.

The St Mirren fixture has come at a good time for Chermiti – here’s why

Chermiti will be delighted that St Mirren is next up on the fixture list following his award.

They are an opposition against which he has also picked up a goal contribution this season.

As Rangers defeated the Buddies 2-1 at the end of December, it was the 21-year-old who assisted Emmanuel Fernandez for the Blues’ second of the game.

Overall, with confidence high and a proven record already against St Mirren, Chermiti could be in line to keep Rangers’ title hopes on track this weekend.

Winning this award could be the grit Chermiti needed between his teeth to be that star for Rangers.
