Arsenal interested in £65m-rated West Ham star this summer

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in £65 million-rated West Ham United midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window

West Ham United are facing an uncertain period as they continue to battle near the bottom of the Premier League table, increasing fears that relegation to the EFL Championship could spark a summer departure of some of their key players.

Clubs struggling to avoid the drop often find it difficult to keep hold of their standout performers, particularly when top sides begin monitoring their situation in the transfer market.

If West Ham were to suffer relegation, several members of their squad could quickly attract interest from rivals across England and Europe. Players who continue to perform at a high level despite their team’s struggles frequently become prime targets for clubs competing in European competitions, with wealthier teams looking to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding a relegated side.

One player already attracting significant attention is Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes. According to a report from Sports Boom, Arsenal are considering a summer move for the 21-year-old as part of their plans to strengthen the squad under manager Mikel Arteta.

Fernandes only joined West Ham in August 2025 after completing a move worth more than £40 million from Southampton, signing a long-term contract with the London side. Despite arriving relatively recently, the midfielder has quickly established himself as an important figure in the team thanks to his technical ability, composure in possession and strong passing range.

The Sports Boom report suggests Arsenal view Fernandes as a player well suited to their possession-based style of play. His ability to control the tempo in midfield and contribute both defensively and offensively has reportedly caught the attention of the club’s recruitment team as they plan for the next transfer window.

However, Arsenal are unlikely to have a clear path if they decide to pursue a deal. The same report indicates that Manchester United and Liverpool are also monitoring the midfielder’s progress as they consider potential reinforcements for their own squads.

Manchester United are believed to be particularly attentive to Fernandes’ performances this season, with scouts reportedly observing the player during multiple matches. His versatility and technical qualities have impressed observers, making him one of the most promising young midfielders currently playing in England.

West Ham are aware of the growing interest in their midfielder and are expected to demand a significant fee should clubs attempt to sign him. Reports suggest the Hammers could seek a transfer fee in the region of €65–75 million, although their negotiating position could weaken if they are relegated at the end of the season.

With the summer transfer window still several months away, Fernandes’ future may ultimately depend on how West Ham’s campaign concludes. If the club fail to secure their Premier League status, competition among England’s top teams for the Portuguese midfielder could intensify rapidly.
