West Ham United get Crysencio Summerville injury clarity as scan results revealed

West Ham United have been provided some clarity as Crysencio Summerville’s scan results have already returned.
The winger picked up a calf problem in the FA Cup fifth-round win over Brentford on Monday.
The former Leeds United man has been in sparkling form for West Ham in 2026, almost single-handedly sparking their push to avoid relegation.
The winger was rested for the first half in the Hammers’ penalty shootout victory over Brentford on Monday, with the game ending 2-2 after extra-time, as he replaced Adama Traore for the second half.
But West Ham will reportedly be without Summerville for a number of games as Nuno Espirito Santo’s team prepare host City on Saturday at London Stadium.
Crysencio Summerville set for spell on sidelines
Summerville had a relatively quiet first half of the season as West Ham looked destined to be relegated to the Championship with a whimper.
However, since their 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest in early January, their form has improved no end.
They are now level on points with Forest on goal difference and have caught up the likes of Tottenham and Leeds United.
But, The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg states that Summerville, who has scored seven goals and added four assists this season in all competitions, will “miss some games”.
Steinberg posted on X late on Tuesday evening: “Scan shows Crysencio Summerville has a minor calf injury. West Ham confident it’s not too serious but looks like the winger will miss some games.”
West Ham are then next in FA Cup quarter-finals action against Leeds on the weekend of April 3-6, before hosting Premier League basement side Wolves on 10 April.
It remains to be seen how many games Summerville will miss, but from West Ham’s point of view, they need him back as soon as possible.
Why West Ham survival hopes could rest on Summerville
Ever since news of Summerville’s injury for West Ham emerged, Hammers fans have been eagerly awaiting the severity of the issue.
Summerville came off the bench against Brentford and played the second half and all of extra time but didn’t take a spot-kick in the shootout, which they won 5-3.
With Summerville in West Ham’s starting XI, they have a functioning and incisive attack, capable of countering teams at great speed.

Without him, they may yet manage but nobody has provided more goal contributions than Summerville at West Ham in 2026, with captain Jarrod Bowen just behind on eight.
Bowen has got West Ham out of jail on countless occasions but now he is being able to flourish again as the opposition are now mindful of Summerville, with sides sometimes doubling up on the 24-year-old.
If 18th-placed West Ham are to stay up, Summerville will have been a big part of that. They will hope his time on the sidelines is brief.
