Jim White reacts to disgraceful Ibrox scenes after Rangers loss vs Celtic

Jim White called out fans for making a scene as Rangers lost to Celtic on penalties in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup on Sunday.

After a drab Old Firm derby at Ibrox on 8 March, chaos ensued in Govan as supporters from both sides of Glasgow came onto the pitch, with the talkSPORT broadcaster describing it as disgraceful.

The ugly side of the rivalry did indeed rear its head as James Tavernier and Djeidi Gassama’s missed penalties sunk Danny Rohl’s team in the quarter-final.

Martin O’Neill tasted victory at Ibrox, with the Hoops keeping hopes of winning silverware in the current campaign alive by qualifying for the next round of the competition.

What does fan behaviour mean for Rangers vs Celtic?

It was the first time in a while that 7,500 Celtic supporters were allowed to attend Ibrox, but after what unfolded, it may be some time before we see that again.

The post-match footage surely overshadowed the game, which didn’t have much quality to begin with.

Rohl was unable to get the best out of the Gers’ attack against a Hoops side who looked out of their feet and were missing some key players.

Writing on X on 8 March, White said, “The ugly side of Rangers and Celtic rears its head again after Celtic put Rangers out of the Cup on pens – disgraceful fan behaviour post-match.”

The Scottish FA will undoubtedly hand out punishments it deems appropriate after assessing the chaotic footage from Govan, which could lead to sanctions for the two Glaswegian clubs.

There were some ugly scenes on the pitch as supporters confronted players and staff, and it remains to be seen how authorities will respond.

Danny Rohl can’t hide behind Ibrox chaos after cup defeat

Rohl’s Rangers future has been under the scanner from a small section of fans, and the disgruntlement will now arguably only grow.

The German manager’s inability to put a deflated Celtic team to the sword should be concerning for fans, who saw the Gers lose a two-goal lead in the Old Firm derby just a week ago.

It leaves the Light Blues with just the William Hill Premiership to play for, and even in the league, they’ve lost some valuable points in recent weeks, dropping to third in the table, six points behind leaders Hearts.

The mentality of the Govan side under Rohl must be questioned and there might be repercussions for players and management by the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
