Gary Keown believes that Danny Rohl is “under real pressure” to deliver at Rangers following the recent spending at Ibrox.

Since coming in to replace Russell Martin, the German has had an exceptional impact in G51, as the Bears find themselves in an unexpected title race.

After the early weeks of the season, this is a scenario many supporters would not have foreseen by this stage of the campaign.

However, while that is credit to Rohl’s ability in the dugout, it has also increased the expectations for the 36-year-old, especially after the 49ers’ recent backing of him.

Now, Rohl has been told he must deliver as Rangers face Celtic in the Scottish Cup.

Rangers did not sit back in the January window, as they pushed forward with plenty of signings to help Rohl’s title challenge.

The Glasgow outfit brought in four new players as they looked to chase down league leaders Hearts.

Results have not fallen Rangers’ way over the last few weeks, with three draws from their previous four matches.

However, with plenty of football to be played, the Jam Tarts are still in their sights, and Keown thinks Rohl must deliver this season, starting with the Scottish Cup.

Keown said via the Daily Mail: “The £10million-plus dished out in January on Tuur Rommens, Ryan Naderi and Tochi Chukwuani – plus whatever it took to secure Andreas Skov Olsen on loan – to bolster the squad inherited by new boss Danny Rohl was a statement of intent.

“However, you’re looking at something in the region of £40m having been spent since last summer. For a team that’s still sitting third in the Premiership, can’t beat Livingston and bottle it when 2-0 up at home against Celtic.

“Rohl has to take the blame for those players retreating into their shells during that second half last weekend. In Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final against O’Neill’s men at Ibrox, the German is under real pressure to prove he is the right kind of coach to take Rangers forward.”

Rohl will no doubt be looking to right last weekend’s wrongs, as defeat to their bitter rivals could hurt confidence in the race for the Scottish Premiership.

Additionally, the Scottish Cup is another excellent chance for Rangers to bring in silverware this season.

Outside noise surrounding the Gers manager is building, with sack claims made about Rohl following the collapse against Celtic last week.

Keown may have a point about Rohl being under pressure, but that pressure will likely arrive from next season onwards.

The German was handed a squad built by another manager, and he was able to turn the ship around following a poor start to the season.

However, after being given a strong winter window and potentially a busy summer window too, he will certainly have to deliver in the 2026-2027 campaign.

There is still plenty of time for Rohl to give fans a year to remember with silverware from nothing, but suggestions that he is under pressure this season are quite unfair.

He has proven himself so far in just a short space of time, and with a proper full season ahead of him, who knows what he can deliver?
