American billionaire breaks silence on his investment in Rangers

Peter Lowy has provided clarity on his involvement with Rangers as he is also a part of the 49ers Enterprises.

The American billionaire has revealed that he is a Celtic fan and does not have any investment in the Ibrox outfit.

He has also lauded Paraag Marathe, who recently left Rangers, for doing an exceptional job at Leeds United, another club owned by the 49ers.

Peter Lowy claims 49ers investment in Rangers does not sideline Leeds United

Lowy has set the record straight that he has no money invested in the Gers, but believes that the 49ers Enterprises are capable of running a multi-club model.

He believes that investing in the Glasgow club was not for him, unlike his other counterparts, who played a key role in the takeover.

The 49ers chief has praised the atmosphere at Celtic Park and has also gone on record to state that Marathe is capable of dividing up his time between Leeds United and the San Francisco 49ers.

Marathe is the Chairman at Leeds, and before resigning, was the Vice Chairman of Rangers.

Speaking on BBC’s Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet, Lowy said: “I’m not an investor in Rangers, I’m not involved in Rangers. I don’t have anything to do with that except that I’m a Celtic man.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

“When you see Eddie (Gray) and I sitting there together, that’s not why I didn’t invest; it just wasn’t for me. One of the best nights I had actually. Eddie and I went up to Celtic Park last season during the European Cup. They played Leipzig, I think.

“And if you want to imagine what you can do at a stadium and imagine where you can take a club then that stadium is spectacular, the noise there, the people, the commitment and if we can get some of that up to where we are at Elland Road we’ll be doing really well.”

“The way I look at it, Paraag is an extremely good executive and knows how to divide his time. For our fans to know, their investment in Rangers did not take one minute away from what Paraag is doing at Leeds and the job he does for us.”

Who is mainly calling the shots at Rangers?

While the 49ers Enterprises have invested and are co-owners of Rangers, Andrew Cavenagh is the face of all operations.

He is the chairman and the main decision maker, who has now started to play a more hands-on role post the departure of Marathe.

Cavenagh will be part of the decision to appoint a new Vice Chairman following Marathe’s departure.

Rangers News revealed that an internal promotion to that role is not understood to be on the cards, as things stand.

Jim Gillespie, an appointment backed by Cavenagh, will be joining as the CEO soon, and perhaps then there will be talks about finalising the next Vice Chairman.
