Celtic News: Daizen Maeda Faces Fan Fury After ‘Shocking’ Rangers Display

Celtic fans are keen to see Daizen Maeda leave the club as they vented their anger at the forward during a 2-2 draw with Glasgow rivals Rangers.

Youssef Chermiti’s first half double punished a terrible opening 45 minutes from Martin O’Neill’s side, who failed to have a shot on target.

O’Neill made two changes at the interval, and the Hoops netted through a Kieran Tierney header and a Reo Hatate penalty, but they could not force a late winner, meaning they drop two more points in the Scottish Premiership title race.

Celtic remain eight points behind league leaders Hearts, and two points behind rivals Rangers, who are second in the table.

Daizen Maeda had ‘shocker’ vs Rangers

Celtic fans would have been expecting a big performance from their key players as they chase down Hearts in a bid to retain their Scottish Premiership title.

However, Rangers dominated proceedings in the first half and Maeda’s poor display was a main talking point among the Celtic support.

Maeda expressed his desire to leave the club last summer, but the 28-year-old remained in Glasgow and has scored just seven goals in 25 league appearances this season.

The Japan international has now not found the back of the net in his last seven league appearances, with little service to end that run at Ibrox.

One supporter called for Maeda to “train with the B team for the rest of the season,” whilst one fan believes Celtic would be “better playing with 10 men.”

Celtic priced out of summer move

Celtic have been told that they would unlikely be able to afford a move for Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Celtic Park, but Bodo/Glimt’s impressive run in the Champions League may price them out of a move.

More clubs have become interested in signing Hogh, who has scored four Champions League goals in 10 appearances this season, including a double against Manchester City.

Champions League football is unlikely to be at Celtic next season given their draw at Rangers leaves them third in the Scottish Premiership table, with entry into the Europa Conference League a greater possibility.
