West Ham penalty verdict vs Bournemouth emerges as Jarrod Bowen footage analysed

Sam Barrott was right not to award West Ham United a penalty against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

The London Stadium hosted the Cherries on 21 February, and in the 95th minute, Jarrod Bowen was set up by Crysencio Summerville and went down after his shot went wide, with Adrien Truffert clipping him on the ankle.

By the time the French defender made contact with the Hammers’ captain, he had already taken the shot.

Former Irons goalkeeper Rob Green believes Truffert put just enough pressure on the England international, with the minimal contact not worthy of a spot-kick.

Nuno Espirito Santo has questions to answer after draw vs Bournemouth

Nuno Espirito Santo should’ve seen the Bournemouth game as a must-win, as the Hammers had a chance to go level on points with 17th-place Nottingham Forest.

    MORE WEST HAM STORIES

It was a rather drab affair at the London Stadium, with both teams focusing more on their defensive solidity than on creating opportunities in the final third.

While the likes of Summerville and Taty Castellanos tried to break the deadlock in E20, it wasn’t enough to secure three points in the 0-0 draw.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live during the game, Green said, “This was the chance West Ham were waiting for. Truffaert just put enough pressure on Bowen. I can’t see how it is a penalty. It was enough pressure without there being enough contact.”

The East London outfit’s fans will feel the Portuguese manager could’ve done more in the game, with Callum Wilson the first substitute to come on in the 72nd minute.

Mohamadou Kante replaced Soungoutou Magassa towards the end of the game, but it was surprising to see someone like Adama Traore not come off the bench.

London Stadium faithful will fear the worst after what Nuno Espirito Santo has done

West Ham have missed the opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them, and the upcoming fixtures may only make matters worse.

The Hammers travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League on 28 February, followed by a trip to Craven Cottage on 4 March.

After the FA Cup fifth round, the Irons will return to league action against Manchester City and Aston Villa, and it’s hard to see where their next points will come from.

With just 11 more games to go, the two dropped points at the London Stadium could potentially turn out to be pivotal in the relegation battle.
