Axel Disasi praised but another West Ham defender was ‘excellent’ vs Bournemouth
West Ham United made it three clean sheets in four matches when Axel Disasi and co held AFC Bournemouth to a goalless draw in Saturday’s tea-time Premier League kick-off.
But there is more to this sudden improvement than a deadline day arrival from Chelsea.
Both Konstantinos Mavropanos and Ollie Scarles have highlighted Paco Jemez’s impact on the defensive front since he was appointed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s number two. The Hammers are seeing ‘the real’ Mads Hermansen at last, at least according to the man himself.
So close yet so far… 😮💨
What did you make of the stalemate with Bournemouth?

Speaking at full-time, meanwhile, captain Jarrod Bowen highlighted a few tactical ‘tweaks’ from Nuno which have helped West Ham United ‘look a lot better’ from a defensive standpoint.
But Jamie Redknapp was not going to let the evening pass without a special mention to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Jamie Redknapp singles out West Ham United duo Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Disasi
There was not too much going forward from him unlike in recent outings – Wan-Bissaka ‘ripped Chelsea apart’ at Stamford Bridge when providing two assists inside 45 minutes a few weeks back – but the former Man United right-back was typically tenacious up against the speedy Amine Adli down Bournemouth’s left.
“You’re at home; you’ve got to take advantage of those home games. [But] a clean sheet, a third of the season, that’s a positive. [Nuno should be saying] ‘can we build on it’?,” former England, Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“Disasi did well today. [But] Wan-Bissaka at right-back was excellent.
“There are things I like about West Ham at the moment. I talk about defensively because, earlier in the season, they were conceding goals. They look more of a menace now from set-pieces, both for and against.”
No one made more clearances than Wan-Bissaka’s five, level with El Hadji Malick Diouf. Kyle Walker-Peters and Ollie Scarles may have stepped up in their absence during the African Cup of Nations, but it is surely no coincidence that a rare run of clean sheets has occurred with the DR Congo dynamo and the Senegalese starlet back in the building.
Redknapp says the Hammers must start winning and fast

Was anyone better than Summerville?
Redknapp, while feeling this is a respectable point against a Bournemouth side in excellent form, wonders if West Ham will look back on a home draw with a pang of regret.
“Jarrod Bowen could have won it at the end,” Redknapp adds, referring to the 94th minute shot blazed over by the skipper. “A point is not going to keep you up. You’ve got to somehow win those home games.
“They’ve got Liverpool and Fulham next up, both away, so that’s not going to be easy.
“Right now, when you are in the bottom three, you need to start winning points to put pressure on those above you. Nottingham Forest [in 17th] will be delighted with that today. A point is not always good enough when you are trying to stay up.
“[But] Bournemouth are such a good side. They could have won it in the second-half. Some of their movement was great, players came on and made a real difference. Rayan nearly scored one of the goals of the season [when hitting the post].
“This is a game they certainly could have won.”
