‘You are done’ – Celtic fans roast Kasper Schmeichel after what he did vs Stuttgart

Kasper Schmeichel once again is subject to widespread criticism by Celtic’s fans after their 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart on Thursday.

The goalkeeper has proven to be highly inconsistent this season, and this proved to be the case again in the Europa League knockout playoffs.

Against the German outfit, the 39-year-old conceded a poor opening goal before letting in a second from Bilal El Khannouss before half-time.

Then, the former Denmark international let in a distant effort for Jamie Leweling to make it 3-1 before Tiago Tomas finished off the game and potentially the tie with another goal late in the match.

Now, Celtic fans have had enough and were quick to slam the goalkeeper online.

Celtic fans have seen enough of Kasper Schmeichel after Stuttgart defeat

While Celtic are not expected to go through against the Bundesliga outfit in the Europa League, there was a hope that they would be able to secure a victory at Celtic Park to take into Germany next week.

For much of the game, the Hoops played well, and certainly gave Stuttgart a run for their money.

However, Schmeichel’s goalkeeping ensured these efforts were in vain, as he proved incapable of keeping the ball out of his net.

As a result, Celtic fans are furious, with many calling for the 39-year-old to never play for the Old Firm side again.

    James McFadden questions Schmeichel’s ability

Schmeichel’s ability was not only questioned by Celtic fans but also by the pundits.

The Dane should have arguably kept out at least two of Stuttgart’s efforts, which would have given the Hoops an excellent chance going into the second leg if he had.

However, it is becoming increasingly clear that his age has caught up with him, with Martin O’Neill’s number one struggling consistently now at Celtic Park.

Watching the match on BBC Sportsound on 19 February, James McFadden was less than impressed with the goalkeeper.

Reacting to Stuttgart’s third, he said: “He misreads it again. He should save it. Another one.”

Now, the task for Celtic will be to somehow turn the result on its head in the second leg.

It will be a massive task for O’Neill, but he has proven time and time again this season that he is capable of delivering results on the road for the Old Firm side in Europe.

The Hoops travel to the MHP Arena on 26 February, with kick-off at 5:45pm.
