‘What is going on?’ – Newcastle fans ‘absolutely gutted’ as Nick Woltemade exit update emerges

Newcastle United supporters are in total disbelief over rumours that Nick Woltemade already wants a return to Germany in the summer.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook (18 February), the Magpies would be willing to sell their new striker signing at the right price, with it being reported that Woltemade is already unhappy in England.

The 24-year-old has 10 goals and three assists in 38 appearances since arriving from VfB Stuttgart, but only one of those goals has come in his last eight games across all competitions.

Newcastle also have Yoane Wissa and William Osula, as well as Eddie Howe playing Anthony Gordon through the middle as a makeshift centre-forward, adding fuel to the fire of an early exit.

Newcastle United fans are fuming over the transfer rumours

One supporter would be “absolutely gutted” if Woltemade were to leave after just a single campaign at St James’ Park, while another said that “no other team has to put up with this”.

The German international signed a club-record deal, costing the Magpies £69million, and beating Liverpool to his signature, seeing him as a replacement for Alexander Isak.

Others are choosing to blame Howe, who has struggled to get the best out of the centre-forward, who notched 20 goal contributions during the 2024-25 campaign.

    • @jimski_kings: “I think Toon fans will reluctantly accept Woltemade, Tino & Tonali leaving, as they maybe are not happy, settled, bigger, better things, homesick, or whatever. Bruno and Hall, however, would be DEVASTATING.”
    • @G57198624: “Not surprised the way Eddie Howe is using him, Howe is absolutely clueless and has no idea how to get the best out of him or how to play to his strengths. I’d rather keep Woltemade and get rid of Eddie Howe.”
    • @HD_07: “So, Woltemade is unhappy, leaving Tonali is unhappy, leaving Gordon is leaving, Livramento won’t sign a contract, leaving Bruno has a verbal agreement, WTF is this?”

Eddie Howe has called for patience over Nick Woltemade

Woltemade was never going to hit the ground running during his first season in England, but given that he was Isak’s direct replacement, many were hoping that he would defy the odds.

Speaking to the media about his start, though, Howe said: “He is young, (it’s) a new league. He started so well, and I think everybody expected that to continue.

“But I think that is very difficult to do, as much as we wanted that to happen for him. He is getting to grips with the challenges of the Premier League – the speed, the intensity and the physicality.”

Howe has been a brilliant man-manager since arriving at St James’ Park in 2021, leading the Magpies to the Carabao Cup trophy and regular battles in the Champions League.
