Rangers turned down Jesse Lingard signing as Danny Rohl offered free agent’s service

Rangers reportedly turned down the chance to sign Jesse Lingard in January.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Lingard offered his services to seven British clubs in this season’s January transfer window, one of which being Rangers.

It’s claimed that Lingard spoke with West Ham about a return to the London Stadium, to which the Hammers declined, as did their fellow Premier League relegation rivals Burnley.

Championship clubs Coventry, Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town are all said to have turned down the chance to sign the attacking midfielder too, whilst Glasgow rivals Celtic and Rangers also did the same.

However, Brazilian outlet Globo now claims that Lingard has an offer on the table to join Brazilian top flight outfit Remo, with talks over a deal until the end of their season underway.

Where has Jesse Lingard been playing recently?

A name synonymous with English football, Lingard won’t need much of an introduction to Scottish football supporters either.

Indeed, the versatile attacking midfielder was once one of the Premier League’s brightest stars, and his 32 England caps help reflect that.

However, for many, his name will have gone somewhat off grid for them over the last few years, and that’s no surprise either, as the now-32-year-old has been playing his football on the other side of the world.

After spending the 2022-23 season with Nottingham Forest, Lingard became a free agent in the summer of 2023, and was one of the biggest names on the free transfer market until February 2024.

It was then that he signed a two-year deal with South Korean side FC Seoul, and that would prove to be a very wise move for them.

As detailed in the above graphic from Sofascore, Lingard played across the FC Seoul attack, averaged the third-highest rating of 7.42 of any player in the K-League and created 14 big chances in 2025.

Lingard made 67 appearances for the South Korean’s capital side, scoring 19 goals and providing 10 assists.

He scored 13 goals and registered seven assists in the 2025 season, before once again becoming a free agent at the expiration of his two-year contract with FC Seoul at the end of December 2025.

This isn’t first time Lingard’s name has been touted with Rangers

Danny Rohl, however, doesn’t appear to have been interested in bringing the veteran attacker to Ibrox this winter.

But, this isn’t the first time Lingard’s name has been mentioned in Rangers transfer circles, far from it, in fact.

Indeed, he was touted as a potential signing for Gers as recently as January 2024, whilst interest has been reported in Lingard from the blue side of Glasgow as far back as the winter of 2020.

However, Lingard now reportedly looks set to miss out on a return to these shores, but could be about to take his talents to one of world football’s biggest hotbeds instead, Brazil.
