Rangers are making preparations to sign Dundee defender Luke Graham in the upcoming transfer window.

Dan Purdy was present at Dens Park on 14 February as the Dark Blues drew 2-2 against Livingston, with the Gers’ technical director keeping a close eye on the defender, according to The Scottish Sun.

The news outlet reports on 17 February that Dundee rejected a £1million bid from Portsmouth for the 21-year-old in January, and that the two Old Firm clubs are monitoring him.

With Aberdeen and QPR among those interested in the Scottish star, the Govan side are looking to win the race for him, with Purdy clearly personally invested in a potential move.

Graham has been a key player for Dundee in the current campaign, starting 25 games in the William Hill Premiership.

    MORE RANGERS STORIES

The Dark Blues are currently ninth in the table and will be hoping to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

With the Scottish centre-back in the team, the Dens Park side have kept four clean sheets in the league, and he’s won 66 per cent of his duels, as per Sofascore.

Graham has been aerially dominant, winning 4.2 aerial duels per game, and has completed 1.2 interceptions and 1.4 tackles per game.

The defender can also be an attacking threat at times, scoring one goal and creating one big chance in the William Hill Premiership.

It isn’t surprising to see the Ibrox side wanting Graham after his standout displays for the Dee, but only time will tell whether they will be able to get a deal over the line for him.

Danny Rohl surely prepares for life without pivotal Ibrox leader

John Souttar’s current contract at the Gers expires at the end of the season, and there has been no significant progress on a renewal.

The Scotland international could potentially leave Rangers as a free agent in the summer, which would be a big blow for Danny Rohl.

Despite Souttar’s fitness issues in recent months and some underwhelming performances, he’s arguably been the best centre-back for the German manager.

It looks like the Light Blues are preparing for the 29-year-old’s eventual departure, with Graham seen as a possible replacement.
