Nuno Espirito Santo clearly made Callum Wilson mistake after West Ham win vs Burton Albion

Callum Wilson was very poor in West Ham’s 1-0 win over Burton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Crysencio Summerville scored a fantastic winning goal in extra time to secure the win over the League One side, and Wilson has definitely been let off the hook for his performance.
Alongside Adama Traore and Keiber Lamadrid, the English forward looked completely out of his depth before being substituted after 105 minutes.
Nuno Espirito Santo added strikers Taty Castellanos and Pablo to the squad in January, which cast doubt on the 33-year-old’s future at the London Stadium.
The Portuguese head coach ultimately decided to keep Wilson, but after seeing how the number nine played at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday, he might regret his decision.
Nuno should have let Callum Wilson leave West Ham
TalkSPORT reported on 19 January that Crystal Palace enquired about signing Wilson, while Celtic were also keen on securing his services.
Wilson looked destined to leave West Ham at the start of January, but after scoring a 93rd-minute winner against Spurs on 17 January, it was swiftly made clear that he wasn’t going to be let go.
With stats via Sofascore, Wilson had the fewest touches (33) of any outfield player to play at least 90 minutes against Burton.
| Stat | Wilson |
| Minutes played | 105 |
| Shots | 5 |
| Touches in opposition box | 11 |
| Ground duels won | 17% |
| Aerial duels won | 17% |
Wilson’s stats vs Burton (via Sofascore)He also won just 17 per cent of his ground duels and his aerial duels, while failing to make a single tackle, recovery or interception in the match.
Of course, some may argue that Pablo’s long-term injury is a good argument for keeping Wilson, but he ultimately isn’t good enough to play in the top flight consistently.
If that isn’t clear based on the evidence against League One opposition, then who knows what is, and Nuno won’t be thinking about starting him again anytime soon.

But Nuno will definitely be thinking about whether it was the right move to keep Wilson in E20, and since the speculation over his future has been cast aside, he has been completely out of sorts.
Wilson will struggle for minutes due to Taty Castellanos’ form
After years of searching for a successful striker, West Ham may have finally found one in Castellanos.
Despite arriving from Lazio with an uninspiring record in front of goal, it’s his movement off the ball that has allowed the likes of Summerville, Jarrod Bowen and Mateus Fernandes to flourish.
After scoring the winner against QPR in the third round of the FA Cup, he finally found the back of the net in the top flight during the 2-0 win over Burnley on 7 February.
The Hammers have won 10 points from the last 15 available, which shows how successful the Argentine has been in the Premier League.
It does mean that Wilson will struggle to get a look in for the remainder of the season, and after Saturday’s display, that is definitely the best-case scenario.
