West Ham close to making their third most expensive sale of all-time in January – report

How will you LOOK BACK on Lucas Paqueta’s West Ham career? 🇧🇷

Rate his Hammers career out of 10

The need for two or three more top quality signings is now urgent.

The unbalanced squad at the London Stadium simply isn’t good enough.

However, the biggest deal of the January window could be a player leaving, rather than one coming in, it seems.

With so many new signings required at the London Stadium, there will obviously be a need for a big sale as well.

    MORE WEST HAM STORIES

And the player West Ham move on could be Lucas Paqueta.

There were rumours that the 28-year-old refused to play for the Hammers against QPR in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande claims that West Ham have made a new Lucas Paqueta demand to Flamengo.

The Hammers have told the Brazilian club that they will only sell the 28-year-old for a minimum of £42 million.

Flamengo are currently only prepared to offer £34 million for Paqueta, so it remains to be seen whether the two clubs are able to agree upon a deal.

One thing is clear now, though – Lucas Paqueta does not want to play for West Ham anymore.

With that in mind, the Hammers should sell him to Flamengo, even if the Brazilian club’s offer is £8 million below their valuation of the midfielder.

If Paqueta leaves this month, even for £34 million, he will become West Ham’s third most expensive sale in history, behind only Declan Rice and Mohammed Kudus.

Why West Ham have to sell Lucas Paqueta in January

With the £8 million difference in the two clubs’ valuations, a compromise will surely be reached sooner rather than later.

The former Lyon man’s performances for West Ham have been nowhere near good enough over the past two years.

What was the point in this then? 🤔

He did help change the history of the football club with his breathtaking through-ball to Jarrod Bowen in the Europa Conference League Final in 2023.

However, the Hammers fans haven’t seen him produce those kinds of moments often enough.

Lucas Paqueta will surely leave West Ham in the January transfer window.

It just remains to be seen how much money the Hammers are able to extract from Flamengo for his signature.

One thing’s for sure; if West Ham don’t sell Paqueta this month, his valuation will only drop by the time the summer rolls around.
