Everton eye Gabriel Sara as certainty emerges for £17m three-in-one midfielder

Gabriel Sara lines up for Galatasaray
Everton remain interested in signing Galatasaray midfielder Gabriel Sara in the winter transfer window.

Everton continued to be linked with new players ahead of the window closing on 2 January, with Sara now re-emerging as a possible target.

However, the Toffees are not the only Premier League team showing an interest in the versatile midfielder, who can play in both deep and advanced central positions.

Fulham and Sunderland join Everton in Gabriel Sara race

As per Friday’s print edition of Turkish outlet Sabah, Everton, Fulham and Sunderland each have their eye on Sara.

The report adds that it is now “almost certain” a bid will come in for the 26-year-old this month, but Galatasaray have made it clear only offers exceeding £17.3millions (€20m) will be considered.

And Gala have also made it clear they will not sell key man Sara regardless prior to their Champions League matches with Atletico Madrid and Manchester City this month.

While Sara has been a longer-term target for Everton, going back to at least the summer, he has only recently been added to Sunderland and Fulham’s list of options.

What would Sara bring to Everton?

Merlin Rohl’s Everton career has not going going since his summer arrival and there is a piece missing from David Moyes’ puzzle in that area.

Sara has featured 24 times for Galatasaray in all competitions this season, most often as an advanced central midfielder.

That is a trait Moyes would no doubt love in a midfielder; someone who is able to chop and change depending on the situation.

The asking price for Sara is not exactly costly in this day and age, but whether Everton’s interest advances further is anyone’s guess.

Supporters simply want to see more new faces brought through the door, with Everton’s 1-1 draw against Wolves this week highlighting the need for an injection of more quality.
