Predicted Newcastle United XI to face Burnley as Eddie Howe makes huge Nick Pope decision

Newcastle United are back in Premier League action on Tuesday when they travel to Burnley.

On paper, it looks like a favourable way to end 2025 for Newcastle United, which has been a year to remember.

This has been the greatest year in the club’s modern history, although it does not feel like it now for Eddie Howe.

If Newcastle United don’t beat Burnley, were would you stand on Eddie Howe’s future?

    The pressure is building!

Failing to beat a Burnley side fighting against relegation, no matter Newcastle’s problems away from home, would only increase the pressure.

In that context, it’s a huge game, so here’s how Geordie Boot Boys are predicting the Magpies to line up.

    Eddie Howe recalls Nick Pope

The goalkeeper, however, was ill at Old Trafford, but Howe has confirmed he will make a decision on whether he will replace Aaron Ramsdale.

Given Ramsdale hasn’t fully convinced since replacing Pope, it would not be a surprise to see a change made.

Either way, whichever goalkeeper Howe goes with is a big call considering the doubts about both Pope and Ramsdale.

Joelinton returns for Newcastle United vs Burnley

Equally, it would not be a surprise to see Joelinton come back into the XI.

Jacob Ramsey has started the last two games and though he did look bright against Chelsea, some rotation could be in order.

We’d all love to see Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa start together but that doesn’t feel very Eddie Howe…

Joelinton has suffered from injuries this season but came off the bench at Old Trafford and Howe has previously spoken positively about his fitness.

Considering the tight turnaround in matches, Joelinton for Ramsey feels like an obvious change.

Nick Woltemade to start ahead of Yoane Wissa

It remains to be seen if Yoane Wissa is able to start a Premier League match yet.

Wissa has confirmed he’s not fully fit for Newcastle and though he did start against Fulham, Nick Woltemade remains Newcastle’s first choice striker.

Some fans will no doubt be keen to see the two play together but, at this stage, that feels unlikely.

Howe expressed doubts about playing Wissa and Woltemade together, largely because dropping a midfielder to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation could cede some control.

Newcastle United predicted XI vs Burnley: Pope; Miley, Thiaw, Schar, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Gordon

Injured: Livramento (knee), Trippier (hamstring), Burn (rib), Botman (back), Krafth (knee)
