Andy Carroll will appear in court on Tuesday after being charged with breaching a non-molestation order.

While little information about the case can be published for legal reasons, The Sun report that Carroll was arrested for the alleged offence in April. The former Newcastle United striker was nicked at an airport soon after jetting into the UK.

Carroll spent last season on loan at Bordeaux and is still playing football aged 36. The Gateshead native currently plies his trade at Dagenham & Redbridge, where he is also a minority owner.

    Police release statement

Essex Police confirmed that Carroll – named in the media now he has been charged – will attend court this week. A statement read: “A man has been charged with breaching a non-molestation order. Andrew Carroll, 36, of Epping, was arrested on April 27 and the alleged offences relate to an incident in March. He is due to appear at Chelmsford magistrates’ court on December 30.”

    What is a non-molestation order?

A non-molestation order is a UK civil court injunction that protects someone from abuse, harassment, or threats by prohibiting the abuser from certain behaviours, such as using violence, threatening violence, contacting, or coming near the victim or their home/workplace.

It’s a strong tool for domestic abuse victims, allowing police to arrest the abuser for breaching the order, which is a criminal offense, even if the behaviour itself isn’t a crime. Doing so can result in a five-year prison sentence.

    Andy Carroll on lifestyle change

After arriving at Newcastle for a second time in 2019, Carroll discussed how he curbed his wild lifestyle. He told the club website: “I’ve grown up completely. When I was here, I had a lot of people around me. I was a kid. I came out of school, I was messing around here. I never really grew up.

“And then I moved away from home, and realised actually what life is about. I’ve got four kids and I’m settled down with my missus, and that’s it now. I do have a daft side to me, a silly side to me, which will never ever go, and I don’t want it to. I’m still a child at heart. But I’ve grown up massively. I’ve realised my mistakes in the past, and realised what I want to be, and what I am.

“I’ve got no doubt that I was daft when I was here, and no doubt that I was daft for a couple of years after as well. But I met my missus, and we’ve got four kids living at home now, we’ve got animals, we’ve got responsibilities.

“There’s no more behaviour like it was, you know. I was stupid, I was young, and I was carried away with the lifestyle that I had. Now it’s completely different. I’m actually a dad, I’ve grown up, and have responsibilities so I’ve got a purpose.”
