Everton take initiative as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall replacement lined up with new transfer

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has arguably left Everton in crisis mode ahead of the winter transfer window.

David Moyes was humbled by Chelsea on 13 December, with Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto scoring in the 2-0 victory for the hosts.

Dewsbury-Hall picked up an injury at Stamford Bridge and was forced off after just 15 minutes, being replaced by Carlos Alcaraz.

The Merseyside outfit have lost depth in the midfield going into the festive period, with Idrissa Gueye off to the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Scottish manager seems to have plans in place to bolster his engine room in January.

The Toffees are monitoring Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s situation.

    MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Ben Jacobs revealed on 16 December that the Blues are open to signing the England international on loan once the upcoming transfer window opens.

The journalist has claimed that West Ham United are also in the race for the 20-year-old, but the Red Devils would prefer sending him abroad.

Jacobs wrote in GiveMeSport: “West Ham and Everton are both open to a loan deal for the 20-year-old under the right circumstances, but sources suggest United would ideally prefer to do a deal with a foreign club if a temporary exit is sanctioned.”

With the English youngster struggling for game time under Ruben Amorim, the prospect of regular minutes at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will surely be enticing.

How long could Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall be out for after injury?

Dewsbury-Hall has been a key player for Moyes, and his absence will undoubtedly be a bitter blow for the Toffees.

Everton thought they’d found an answer for their midfield problem before Gueye’s eventual departure to AFCON, with the former Chelsea ace performing well in a deeper role alongside James Garner.

The Scottish manager now has to find a different solution in the middle of the park, with a hamstring issue potentially keeping the 27-year-old Englishman out for one week or several months, depending on the severity.

Fans in L4 will hope Dewsbury-Hall’s issue isn’t serious and he can help the Merseyside outfit against Arsenal on 20 December.
