Newcastle United issue Dan Burn injury statement, length of absence confirmed
Eddie Howe has confirmed the severity of Dan Burn’s injury after coming off during Newcastle United’s defeat to Sunderland.
Dan Burn was hospitalised after a challenge from Nordi Mukiele, with the Sunderland defender crashing into the 33-year-old’s chest with his studs. He was struggling to breathe after the incident, and is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
Should Nordi Mukiele have been sent off for his challenge on Dan Burn?
The Toon defender suffered a broken rib and a punctured lung 😳

It has been reported that Burn suffered a broken rib and punctured lung, and now Eddie Howe has provided an update on the Toon defender.
“It was under the radar in terms of reviewing the game of the importance of Dan and what he brings to the team,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.
“It is a rib problem with an issue with his lungs so it will probably be about four to six weeks.”
Newcastle United lose Dan Burn at a pivotal time
The timing of Burn’s injury could not be worse. Burn could miss 10 games, if he is absent for the full six weeks.
He is unavailable at a time when Newcastle United are already without the likes of Sven Botman, Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth. The Magpies are desperately short of defenders, as their busy schedule gets set to continue.

Not only is Eddie Howe losing a body, but he is also missing a leader. Burn is a crucial member of this Newcastle United squad, serving as part of the leadership group within the team.
That leadership will be a big miss on the pitch, at a time when Howe’s side desperately need to put a string of results together after losing the Tyne-Wear derby.
