Freddie Potts is the latest West Ham star to make the smooth transition from the Rush Green academy to the Premier League.

West Ham beat Burnley 3-2 on Saturday to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since February, with Potts starting in the heart of midfield.

Despite the West Ham fans protesting against David Sullivan ahead of the match, they’ll be thrilled to have moved level on points with their opponents.

Nuno Espirito Santo is slowly winning the fans over with the last two results, and even though there is still a long way to go in the season, performances can only improve under the Portuguese manager.

West Ham are still expected to be relegated, but Potts’ brilliant first-half display has left fans purring with excitement over their latest homegrown talent.

Freddie Potts continues to excel for West Ham

Potts has a huge potential at West Ham, and he could become the closest player to Declan Rice in terms of his athleticism.

West Ham have been criticised for their lethargic midfield over the past two seasons, yet in Potts, they have an answer to all their problems alongside Mateus Fernandes.

No West Ham player completed more duels, tackles, or created more chances than Potts in the first half.

Potts’ stats vs Burnley (via FotMob)Loan spells at Wycombe and Portsmouth over the past two years have fast-tracked his development massively.

In the Championship last season, Potts created 33 chances and completed 980 successful passes, showcasing his quality on the ball.

The 22-year-old has won 58.1 per cent of his ground duels in the Premier League this season, and the young prospect has certainly shown that he is more than capable of holding his own in the top flight.

However, Potts was unfortunately subbed off with an injury in the 62nd minute, putting an end to his impressive display.

Luckily for Hammers supporters, Potts’ injury doesn’t seem to be as bad as it was feared, especially with the international break now here.

Nuno Espirito Santo shares update on Freddie Potts

The biggest issue Potts may face is recurring fitness problems, and he needs a good run of games in the starting line-up to go to the next level.

After the match, Nuno Espirito Santo shared an update on Potts’ current condition.

He said: “He has a dead leg. Only a dead leg. I think he should be available for Bournemouth.”

The international break has perhaps come at the wrong time for West Ham, given the momentum they’ve built up in the past week; however, this will allow Potts to be fully ready for the trip to the south coast on 22 November.

It’s been a long wait to see Potts, but he has finally been unleashed.
