Early Team News: Nuno Omits £144,000-a-Week West Ham Star From Squad v Everton

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse reportedly hasn’t travelled to face Everton on Monday night in the Premier League, according to West Ham Football.

Nuno Espirito Santo was brought in to replace Graham Potter on Saturday, despite the latter facing the media on Friday ahead of their game against Everton. The experienced manager has some big decisions to make ahead of their trip to Liverpool to face the Toffees as he aims to get a tune out of the squad, with the Hammers battling towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

A host of West Ham players are currently underperforming, so it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nuno make a host of changes ahead of the game. West Ham currently sit in 19th place in the league, winning just once from their five games this season, with their only victory, interestingly, coming against Nuno’s Forest earlier in the campaign.

According to insider West Ham Football, Ward-Prowse hasn’t travelled to Merseyside to face Everton on Monday evening. Former Nottingham Forest manager Nuno is clearly looking to stamp his authority at the club already, despite only arriving through the door at the weekend.

It’s unclear whether Ward-Prowse hasn’t been selected due to a team decision or injury, but the English midfielder is usually an incredibly reliable player when it comes to his fitness. The £144,000-a-week earner was a regular under Potter this season, but the decision from Nuno will have undoubtedly raised questions marks as to his future at the club.

Ward-Prowse started West Ham’s previous fixture against Crystal Palace, and they now have a host of options who could come in to replace him in the middle of the park. The Hammers had Guido Rodriguez, Soungoutou Magassa, and Andy Irving as options on the bench, so it will be interesting to see who comes into the starting XI.

It’s a huge clash for West Ham, but it will be a tricky test, with Everton unbeaten in their three competitive games at their new stadium. West Ham’s final game before the international break will be a short trip across London to Arsenal on Saturday.
