Everton predicted line-up vs. West Ham: Branthwaite & Röhl among injuries
Everton will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten record at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday evening when they welcome Graham Potter’s struggling West Ham United to Merseyside – but the home side will have to make do without at least two first-team players.
David Moyes used his Friday press conference to provide updates on the fitness of Jarrad Branthwaite and Merlin Röhl, and offered some insight into the availability of young full-back Adam Aznou ahead of the match.
We’ve got all of the latest team news and injury updates ahead of the game against West Ham below, along with our prediction for Moyes’ likely starting line-up.
Will Jarrad Branthwaite be back for Everton?
Centre-back Branthwaite has yet to play this season after suffering a hamstring injury during pre-season – and while he had been on track to return imminently, Moyes has now confirmed that the 23-year-old aggravated the issue in training recently.
“We are disappointed he re-injured himself,” the Scotsman told the media on Friday, adding that Branthwaite was “fine” but that he “will not be available for Monday.”
Moyes further explained that Branthwaite may have been used at left-back in recent matches had he been available, and that 19-year-old summer signing Aznou, who moved to Merseyside from Bayern Munich, would not be in consideration for the starting eleven in the near future.
“[Aznou] has a bit to do to be ready for the first team,” Moyes explained, adding that they were aware that further development and patience would be required when they signed the youngster. Moyes is, as such, likely to operate with a back four of Vitalii Mykolenko, Michael Keane, James Tarkowski and Jake O’Brien.
Merlin Röhl also out for West Ham match
The only other player who is expected to miss out on Monday’s match in midfielder Röhl, who has only managed 24 minutes of football for Everton since signing from SC Freiburg for a fee starting at £18m in the summer transfer market.
The 23-year-old has been hampered by a groin injury in recent weeks, and Moyes did not provide a fresh update on his progress or recovery. He is expected to be sidelined for at least one more week and could potentially be in the squad to face Crystal Palace on 5 October, but has not yet returned to full training.
Everton will otherwise head into the match against West Ham with a full squad of players available, although Moyes has to decide whether to continue to start Beto as a central striker or to give another summer signing, Thierno Barry, just his second league start of the season. Barry was given the nod in the 3-2 midweek EFL Cup defeat to Wolves but has yet to score a goal for his new club.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, meanwhile, is now one yellow card away from a one-match suspension having already collected a booking in the last four consecutive Premier League matches.
