Despite some traffic Senga was able to keep the Dodgers from scoring.

The Mets, after a marathon slog of a game Friday night and a comfortable win on Saturday night, were trying to secure the series win with the Sunday night rubber game. Kodai Senga was taking the mound for the Mets, and facing Landon Knack starting for the Dodgers.

It was an inauspicious start for Senga, giving up a lead off home run to Shohei Ohtani on the second pitch of the game. He got into more trouble after a Mark Vientos misplay on a ground ball allowed Mookie Betts to reach first, and a Freddie Freeman double put two runners in scoring position without a single out. But Will Smith hit a fly ball out that Tyrone Taylor rocketed to the plate, and after review the original call was overturned and Mookie Betts was called out at the plate. Teoscar Hernández struck out to end the inning with the Dodgers only scoring the one run.

The Mets were able to strike back pretty immediately. A two-out error by Max Muncy allowed Juan Soto to reach first, and Pete Alonso immediately hit a two-run home run to put the Mets ahead by a run. The game was pretty quiet for the next inning and half. The only baserunner for either side was Tyrone Taylor, who reached after being hit by a pitch with two outs, and he was swiftly stranded.

In the bottom of the third the Mets created more traffic for Knack. Lindor led off with a single, and Vientos hit a ground ball to Betts. Betts attempted to toss it to Tommy Edman at second but threw it over his head, allowing Vientos to reach safely and Lindor to make it to third base. Soto then grounded into a force out, Vientos was erased at second but Soto made it to first and Lindor came home for the Mets third run.

The Dodgers attempted to reverse their fortune in the top of the fourth. Freeman led off with a single, but Will Smith grounded into a double play to erase Freeman. Hernández then hit a double and stole third and Max Muncy walked, putting runners on the corners. But Andy Pages flew out to end the inning and strand both runners.

The bottom of the fourth was quiet before the Dodgers made traffic for Senga in the fifth. MIchael Conforto led off with a walk, then Edman and Ohtani made two outs. But a Betts single and Freeman walk loaded the bases. Will Smith grounded out to end the inning and leave all three runners on base. The Mets went down in order again in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, Senga got the first out, but after walking Muncy again he was pulled in favor of Ryne Stanek. Stanek got Pages to ground into a double play to end the inning. Other than a McNeil ground-rule double, the Mets were quiet in the bottom of the inning. Max Kranick came in for the top of the seventh and a perfect first inning. Jack Dreyer came in to pitch in the bottom of the inning, and Marte came in to pinch-hit for Jared Young at designated hitter. Marte hit a single then was thrown out trying to steal second. Dreyer got two more outs to end the inning.

Max Kranick stayed in for the eighth, and they moved Baty to third and brought in Luisangel Acuña to play second. Kranick had another perfect inning, the Mets needing just three outs to win the series. Lou Trivino came in for the bottom of the inning. Acuña hit a one-out single, and stole second after a Juan Soto strikeout, advancing to third on a throwing error. Alonso struck out, however, to end the inning and leave Acuña stranded at third. Reed Garrett came in for the top of the ninth, to try and get the save and secure the win for the Mets. GArrett had some traffic, with Muncy hitting a one-out single, and Pages replacing him on a force out. Pages stole second, but Garrett was able to strike out Conforto to win the game.

The Mets took the series from the Dodgers, and are now eleven games over .500. Tomorrow the White Sox come into town, and they face the Rockies after that. Hopefully the stretch of well below average teams will help them add some wins to their tally before they face the Dodgers once again next week in Los Angeles.
