Minter is coming off of hip surgery last season.

A.J. Minter left the eighth inning of today’s Mets/Nationals game with an unknown injury. After throwing a 3-1 pitch to James Wood, Minter immediately looked uncomfortable and called to the dugout for the trainer. He left the game and was relieved by Max Kranick.

Minter had hip surgery in August of 2024 while a member of the Braves, after spending two spells on the Injured List with hip impingements earlier in the season. The Mets have attempted to roll him out a little slower this season to account for the injury recovery, limiting his innings early and initially not throwing him in back to back games.

But a back to back appearance is what today’s eighth inning call was. Minter struck out C.J. Abrams before hurting himself.

Kranick came in mid-at-bat for the second time this week, after doing the same for Edwin Díaz on Wednesday at Citi Field. Kranick walked Wood on his first pitch of the game, but got Nathaniel Lowe to strike out and then inducing a Josh Bell pop up to end the frame.

Despite leaving the game earlier this week, Díaz avoided serious injury and didn’t miss any time; hopefully Minter can do the same.
