Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Provides Positive Announcement on Tyler Glasnow

Los Angeles Dodgers fans can breathe a sigh of relief… for now. Oft-injured starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who was pulled in the fifth inning of his Sunday start against the Texas Rangers, received a positive health update.

Here is what manager Dave Roberts had to say on Glasnow, via Jack Harris of the LA Times:

“We expect him to make his next start on Sunday at home,” Roberts said. “So, hopefully this is a one-time occurrence.”

Glasnow has dealt with cramping issues before, but this is a far cry from the other injuries the 31-year-old has suffered. In 2018, when Glasnow was still with the Tampa Bay Rays, he missed time with lower back tightness. In 2019, he strained his right forearm.

In August of 2021, Glasnow underwent Tommy John surgery and missed nearly the entire 2022 campaign. Over the last two years, an oblique strain, more lower back tightness, and a sprained right elbow have kept him off the mound.

Over the last six years, Glasnow has started just 86 games and thrown 483 and 2/3 innings. However, even with all of these setbacks, he has a 3.18 ERA, a 2.92 FIP, and 653 strikeouts during that time.

Glasnow is in the unfortunate “What-If” group of MLB pitchers, as his career has been derailed by a laundry list of injuries.

The Dodgers are also already at a shortage with starting pitchers, as Blake Snell and Tony Gonsolin are on the 15-day injured list, and there is no telling when Clayton Kershaw or Shohei Ohtani might return.

It appears Los Angeles has avoided a dire scenario with Glasnow, and if he can stay healthy, he is one of the best pitchers in baseball and should propel the team toward its second-straight World Series title.
