Austin Reaves Sends Message After JJ Redick’s Big Decision

The Los Angeles Lakers snapped their slump with a dominant 134-127 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, securing just their second win in their last six games. The Lakers’ big three took center stage in the contest, delivering a historic offensive performance on the road.

Austin Reaves led all scorers with 31 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, followed by Luka Doncic (29 points, eight rebounds, nine assists) and LeBron James (25 points, six rebounds, eight assists). Their combined efforts resulted in NBA history, as they became the first trio on the same team to each record at least 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists while making at least two three-pointers each (via StatMamba).

Before their record-breaking performance, head coach JJ Redick reportedly held a team meeting to address the Lakers’ poor form (per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin). Redick later confirmed the meeting, stating that he challenged the three stars to play with more force and creativity.

After this big decision by LA’s rookie head coach, Reaves sent a message on the impact of the meeting.

“I think the meeting was just still trying to build that chemistry amongst the three of us to help the team be successful,” Reaves said “Tonight, it just showed that when we play the right way and trust one another, especially offensively, we can have open looks on almost every possession. … It was really just a conversation about how bad all of us want to win and win at a high level.”

The meeting seemed to work, as the Lakers’ offense outpaced the Grizzlies, who welcomed back Ja Morant after a six-game absence. Morant made an impact with 22 points and 10 assists, but LA’s red-hot shooting—19-of-43 from three-point range—proved too much for Memphis to overcome.

With a 45-29 record, the Lakers will look to carry this momentum into a crucial home game against the Houston Rockets (48-26) on Monday night.
