NBA insider floats wild trade idea that would swap Kyrie Irving for young star and include Los Angeles Lakers

One NBA insider has a bold summer trade idea that would see the Dallas Mavericks move Kyrie Irving for a young superstar, and also include the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers stunned the NBA world last month when they pulled off a historic trade. To the surprise of the Mavs fanbase, the team felt they needed to move on from top star Luka Doncic. But instead of creating a massive bidding war for him, general manager Nico Harrison identified Anthony Davis as the player he needed and focused on getting him back in a trade.

Since the deal, the two franchises have gone in very different directions. The Lakers were already good before the trade. But now with the young superstar they are viewed as a dark horse to reach the NBA Finals from the West. Dallas has lost Kyrie Irving for the season due to a torn ACL. And Davis may miss the rest of the campaign with an abductor strain. The Mavs could end up as a lottery team by the end of the season.

Building a franchise on two expensive injury-prone stars was always a risk and may be why Bleacher Report NBA insider Eric Pincus suggested a wild blockbuster three-time trade idea this week that would send Irving to the East and include the Lakers.

Pincus’ idea is a three-team mega deal between the Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, and Los Angeles Lakers. In the trade, the Mavs would give up Irving, Daniel Gafford, their first-round pick this June, and the 2029 first-rounder they received from LA in the Doncic trade.

In return they would get Hornets star LaMelo Ball. Depth additions Josh Okogie and DaQuan Jeffries, as well as the Lakers’ second round pick this year. Charlotte would get Irving, Dalton Knecht and Maxi Kleber from LA, and the two aforementioned first-rounders.

For the Lakers, they would get the impact center they have been trying to get for months. That being Daniel Gafford. While LA would give up a lot in the deal, they fill a huge need with a player that had great chemistry with Doncic last year.
