A new report has revealed the latest update on what it will take the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, or New York Yankees to ink Vladimir Guerrero to a free agent contract next offseason.

There is a great deal of hope and excitement surrounding the Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees as they kick off spring training this week. The pair New York teams both went deep in last year’s playoffs and improved their rosters this offseason.

However, after a solid season in 2024, Boston seems like a dark horse contender in the AL after making some big moves in recent months. Including a blockbuster trade for ace pitcher Garrett Crochet and inking Alex Bregman to a historic deal for a third baseman last week.

Yet, eyes at camp for all three clubs were also on the Blue Jays this week. It was revealed on Monday, that Toronto and top star Vladimir Guerrero again failed to reach an agreement on a new long-term contract. He is now expected to test MLB free agency after the 2025 season. The three northeast teams have been linked to the four-time All-Star as both suitors on the trade market later this year. And on the open market next fall.

But what will it take to sign the talented slugger? Well, a new report has offered up updated numbers on what he may be looking for in his next deal.

Will Boston Red Sox or New York Mets have to give Vladimir Guerrero a 14-year deal?

“It’s reasonable to assume Guerrero wants 14 years, one less than Juan Soto, who was a year younger entering free agency,” The Athletic MLB insider Ken Rosenthal wrote on Tuesday. “The record average annual value for a first baseman is Miguel Cabrera’s $31 million. For Guerrero, a $35 million AAV would produce a total value of $490 million. A $40 million AAV would increase it to $560 million. Crazy numbers, perhaps, for a player with the 6-foot-2, 245-pound Guerrero’s body type. But even at the high end, more than $200 million less than Soto.”

The New York Mets gave Juan Soto a record-shattering $765 million 15-year deal in December. Would they be willing to give well over $500 million to another player? That remains to be seen. The Boston Red Sox might be a bit more willing to do so. Since they have fewer high-end contracts than the Mets. It also helps that Beantown is rumored to be the place Guerrero would like to play next.
