Raiders Can Bolster Secondary With $58 Million Move

Much of the focus surrounding the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason will be about their needs on offense. However, the defense could also use some upgrades, especially in the secondary.

Jakorian Bennett played really well last season but has only started 11 games in his career so the sample size is too small to go into 2025 with him penciled in as the CB1. Jack Jones has shown some flashes but there’s a chance he won’t be back with the team next season.

The Raiders are projected to have over $100 million in salary cap space this offseason so they could spend big on a cornerback.

believes Las Vegas is one of the best fits for New York Jets starting cornerback D.J. Reed.

“Reed could be a cost-effective starter for the Raiders while reuniting with his old head coach in Pete Carroll, with the two having worked together for the Seattle Seahawks in 2020 and 2021, which were two of his best seasons as a pro,” Brooke wrote.

As Brooke noted, Reed has worked with Carroll before so he should be an easy fit. That said, he won’t be cheap.  has Reed’s market value at four years, $58.6 million. That wouldn’t make him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL but it would be a significant financial commitment.

If anybody would know whether or not Reed is worth that kind of money, it would be Carroll so he should be a player to watch for the Raiders this offseason.
