Luka Doncic trade has just unlocked Bryce James door for LeBron James, says Kevin Garnett
The blockbuster Luka Doncic trade has opened a gateway for LeBron James to play with Bryce James.
In an instant, the Los Angeles Lakers went from being a middle-of-the-pack team to a clear NBA title contender in the Western Conference, thanks to the blockbuster Luka Doncic trade.
Getting a generational superstar in a trade for only a handful of assets not only gives the Lakers a chance to win a ring now, but also ensures that their star LeBron James can extend his NBA career.
After all, even at 40 years old, James remains one of the best players in the league and could play well into his 40s. He proved that during the Lakers’ recent win over the Golden State Warriors.

Kevin Garnett on the Luka Doncic trade’s impact on LeBron James
Right now, the Laker Nation is patiently waiting for Doncic’s season debut for the Purple and Gold. Meanwhile, James has carried the team on his back as the Lakers remain undefeated since parting ways with Anthony Davis.
Now, NBA legend Kevin Garnett shed some light on a lesser-talked impact of Doncic’s arrival in LA, which impacts James’ chances of potentially sharing the court with his younger son, Bryce James.
“The Lakers just got a player for the next 15 years that they would never have been able to get. If he gets 70 in a Laker uniform,” Garnett said. “He’s more Kobe Bryant than LeBron James, meaning he’s going to take the last shot, he ain’t tripping, you feel me?”
KG added: “This is who you give the keys to. … Now you just bought Bron two more years. This is how Bron is going to play with Bryce.”
For years, LBJ expressed his desire to play with Bronny James, but he hasn’t made such statements about his younger son, at least for now.
However, with Doncic’s arrival, the 4x NBA champ can take a backseat and further extend his career, and join forces with his second son as well.
Bryce James will be NBA Draft eligible in 2026
A few months ago, Bryce made headlines when he committed to play basketball in Arizona, despite many predicting that he would choose Ohio.
Either way, he will start his NCAA journey in 2025, but won’t be draft-eligible until 2026, when he will be 19 years old.
If Bryce turns out to be an exciting prospect, the Lakers could take a chance on him. After all, the organization still has its 2026 first-round pick even after making a haul of moves at the NBA Trade Deadline.
But looking at Bronny’s career trajectory, Bryce may spend an extra year in college to further hone his skills and become a better prospect when he declares for the NBA Draft.
