The Astros seemed to be out of the Alex Bregman market, but the Boston Red Sox saw them re-enter the conversation this week.

Houston reportedly re-engaged with Bregman’s camp with its six-year, $156 million contract on the table. Astros general manager Dana Brown admitted there was some surprise to see the All-Star still on the market but didn’t divulge discussions with Bregman. Manager Joe Espada was more assertive about his thoughts about the talks.

“Like I’ve always said, arms are open. I want him back,” Espada told reporters, per Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston. “I know we haven’t shut that door. He’s still a free agent. As the manager of the team, if I could have Alex Bregman back, I’d love to have him back. I’ve said how much I love and care about this player and what he brings to the table. I want him back.”

Espada certainly isn’t alone in his clubhouse. Jose Altuve was vocal about wanting Bregman back and seems to be open to playing left field to allow Christian Walker and Issac Parades to play the infield.

The optimism is high in Houston on bringing Bregman back even if they fail to do so. The new reports added pressure on the other suitors ahead of spring training next month.
